Fair enough. I usually like to find out why I shouldn't give my money to a company when people indicate that to be the case because if it's legit, I'll definitely refrain. But, seeing as the only reply to the question in 2.5 pages was "we don't talk about the I Hate Aerosoft club," there's no evidence this is anything but a typical Internet snark-mob, so off I go to buy this from Aerosoft.

Once you purchase from them you can transfer it over to Contrail as of now.

Most first day purchasers were doing that yesterday - details are over on FSS Discord.

I'm quite interested in this as I love classic jets with period avionics. My question is.. How is the vor /ils tracking? The jf f28 is compromised by the shoehorning of the GPS in there. Does it intercept radials quickly and hold them accurately enough for vor /dme ndb departures and arrivals?

Also, can I fly the plane without ever seeing that ubiquitous reminder of this century, the wna portrait mode smartphone? The load/fuel system and loose leaf binder system I'm impressed with. Can't even watch any videos with that other electronic device polluting my classic 60s/70s cockpit though.

Haha, of course you can Russell.  It normally resides in a sidewall pocket beside the Captains seat. You wouldn't know it was there if I hadn't just told you. You don't have to use it to fly the aircraft, so it can just stay there for the whole flight.  So no modern day intrusion on your classic flights is necessary. I agree the clipboard is a nice unintrusive approach to a classic airliner product.

Sorry, can't answer your VOR/ILS question since I'm still trying to bind No3 engine on the Honeycomb Bravo.  The last 2 eng takeoff scared the bejeezus out of me.  I do understand though, that MSFS is not accurate with VOR ranges which are much shorter than expected. In one reported case (not this B727) the VOR wouldn't capture until within 14nm!  But this is a sim problem, not a FSS B727 bug as far as I am aware.

Cheers

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

I wonder why as 2 days ago you stated: “ as I just can NOT take MSFS seriously for simming. “ over in the P3D section 😉

What changed your mind?

Couldn't you just not.. use it? There's even an option in the EFB to remove it entirely. Do remember that the F28 is still used today, retrofits for classic airliners is just SOP at this point.

That depends on if you want to manage the engineer panel yourself or not. If you don't then there's never a need to open the smartphone. However if you want a virtual assistant you will need to use the smartphone.

What an odd thing to get worked up about. It's a tiny device that you use for like 5 seconds (if you need to) then stow it when you're not using it.

And although it's a bit sluggish in its manoeuvring it still went where I wanted it to go. Teensy bit of last minute slew at the end, and I also confirmed that it floats ok too.

Eh, what about the very fact there's now a 727?

Enjoyed fd2sim’s stream with the 727 but again you can see just how high the workload is with these old birds. The absence of any kind of ND really makes you work hard to attain any kind of SA in terms of where you are relation to fixes and navaids. It’s easy to see why they got retrofitted with GPS…

What changed your mind?

See the question about the SMARTPHONE. It might even be in the same post? Can NOT take a smartphone in a 727 seriously so I asked if I can delete it/never use it.

Also.. deep breath...you understand to take the sim SERIOUSLY when you fly a CLASSIC plane you need CLASSIC nav?

Also if you READ the P3d posts I am not ABLE to go the p3d route yet as PMDG are halting sales. So in accordance with the usual human rules regarding desperation and adaptation I am trying to find a SERIOUS ac ANYWHERE.

Thanks @Lord Farringdonfor the reply about the smartphone. Cheers sir! To the people who have them super glued to their noses from cradle to grave, there is no point in engaging with me. I loathe them for multiple reasons too many to list here.

If I only need to use the thing ONCE after plane is installed to set my prefs then never again that's ok. I'm ok with that. If I have to start every flight with it I'll take a hard pass. In 25 years of simming I've not used one in a plane, ain't starting now just cos it's trendy for some folk.

I'm not a luddite or a tech noob, I worked as IT consultant for half my career, flying around the UK & Eire fixing company meltdowns. Then when I retired I turned the grid OFF and I'm staying that way. When possible! Some folk won't even use electricity, for real! I mean how do they sim? With paper planes? :D

Anyone else having any problems with the ground handling? Not sure if its something in my setup, but I can hardly get it to make a turn on the ground at all. Just tried to make a 180 on the runway and ended up using slew mode just remain in the airport boundary!

I have not bought it yet but would like too. What is the issue with not being able to bind the third engine to the honeycomb?

No issue really just me taking shortcuts that don't work ie duplicating profiles. Start a 'New' profile from scratch and it all works good👍

Cheers

I’m just checking in to say I’m having an absolute ball with this plane.  Very well done and not what I expected at all from FSS.  I own every plane they make including the E-Series.  I have all their planes because I collect planes and airports, not because of any Herculean Prowess from FSS, so…totally unexpected and paired with the TDS GTN Pro, amazing to fly.  A Home Run in my book.

paired with the TDS GTN Pro? Is this just a selection in the setup? I do not have it yet but buying if you can use the GTN.

Yes a simple selection in the clipboard. It will also save your selection so it's a one time thing. Works perfect.

A great aircraft very enjoyable. You can go really old school and use INS and do everything yourself to having a co-pilot and flight engineer.
