The OP is of course right. We were sold the next version of MSFS 2020 but in reality, they delivered Microsoft Flight 2.0. They are trying to shoehorn some aspects of MFSF 2020 into MS Flight 2.0, but in doing so they pretty much broke everything. But if you opened your eyes even before this was released, you could see that there were serious problems. The issue I have is that Steam will not refund my money because I spent too many hours just trying to install it. At this point all I can hope for is one day this thing will be ready. I am just unwilling to be an alpha tester for the next 4 years.

If Jorg is really the guy managing this debacle he needs to be removed from the project. Far too many PM mistakes.

Completely agree, they've broken FS24 (mostly I think to facilitate increased use by XBoxers) to little immediate benefit for the rest of us.

That's exactly what people were complaining about with MSFS 2020 up until two weeks ago.😆

I'm not sure I understand. The sim was released like 3 weeks ago. Yes, it feels like a step back from MSFS2020. But while it feels like a step back, I really think and can see major improvements in the sim and the overall performance and extended support.

Instead of screaming up about that one feels like it's a step back and it's useless, try to have a positive look at it: We're getting a new sim, which have large improvements over the old one (at least in my opinion). I haven't flown in it that much yet, but the few flight I have tried, I immediately noticed improved flightmodel, weather depiction and performance. Yes, the menus and controls setup are a bit wonky at the moment, but I'm certain, that they'll get there.

Look at it as they have taken a demolition ball to the whole MSFS2020-house and have gone back to it's foundation and are remaking the sim from scratch. In my opinion, I think it's a great project and it's worthy of supporting. Give it time. I'm sure, that over the next few years, we'll be getting a sim, which trumps the previous in (if not all, then) many ways. I choose the opimistic approach, that a lot of the the features, that was desperately requested in MSFS, will come to MSFS2024 in time.

Be patient... good things come to those who wait. 🙂

Asked for a refund but Steam rejects it, saying I have more than 2 hrs playing. Well, it took me more than 3 hrs to set up the controller, let alone completing a proper session.

Just for this disrespectful statement, people should request refunds left and right and stop buying this software. This is the only way to get their attention! HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS AND SEE HOW QUICKLY THEY TURN AROUND!

It is impossible to have "a positive look" when the main function of assigning and adjusting the flight controls in a flight game/simulator is as broken as it is. In the old MSFS2020, it was very acceptable, and the customer didn't have to waste so much time in vain. It was unnecessary to break what works in MSFS2020 and make it worse for the MSFS2024 in many aspects. THE UNFORTUNATE FACT IS THAT FS2024 SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED IN THESE CONDITIONS.

The "FSElite review" is clickbait to direct someone to there web site! That is what clickbait is.

no, it's not clickbait, why do people keep misunderstanding the term clickbait?

clickbait is the use of misleading or sensationalist tactics to get you to click on something you would otherwise ignore

there is nothing of the sort present on the article, or the title, or the website itself, you only know the conclusion once you've read it - what you are saying is, you disagree with the author

there will soon be an operating mode, which works the same as MSFS 2020.

are you sure about that?

the same?

so it will be circa 100gb local disk utilization?

These days, I had to setup a new PC. Installation time of MSFS 2024 -> 20 minutes. The full MSFS 2020 installation with all the world updates took easily 30 times (!) more! Like 10 hours or so.

I took me less then 1 hous to install 2020

I rather have 2024 installed locally than having to experience mesh degradation or other issues because MS severs can't deliver 24/7/365 consistently.

SSD storage now a days is quite inexpensive.

Change does not necessarily mean broken. Once I figured out how to do the assignments, I was done in ten minutes. And yes, I'm an incredibly grumpy old man. Are there bugs? Certainly, but there were still bugs in 2020 when I uninstalled it last month. The clouds, the trees, the ground cover, the rivers, the roads, and the X Cub have seen massive improvement over 2020 from my perspective. Those horrible green roads and bad water-masked rivers seem to be a thing of the past. Was I expecting to get 60 fps with my mid-range PC again? Nope, but 30 is smooth for me on mostly Ultra settings. I'm looking forward to bug fixes and improvements.

The aerial textures are served from cloud in MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. The 2024 backend seems to struggle under the load from time to time, so they simply need to scale up the backend's performance. I can think of no other reason for this issue, than higher than expected success and a larger than assumed user base.

Or simply the fact that the last mile is out of their control and very dependent upon ISP as well.  Latency, Jitter, dropped packets, gateways all factor into everyone's individual experience as well as the largely increased texture quality in 24 which clearly have caused some people heartache in them remaining blurry, not loading at all which indicates that things are still being worked out and things can still be optimized.

So personally I don't think it's because it's been so successful and it's being over consumed.  Think about the millions of people who can simultaneously access the largest databases on the web, the MMO games that support millions of concurrent connections and then figure that MSFS can't scale for it's user base and blame it on the sim being so good?  Personally I disagree but I completely agree they need to scale up the backend performance.

In a way MSFS 24 is a bit of a science experiment and I respect that.  The sheer amount of data/detail they are trying to stream in real time is actually mind blowing when I stop and think about it.  I don't believe there is another sim that has tried to stream so much information and detail of the entire world to this granular a level.  It's a monumental achievement in it's own right if they get it right long term (which 2020 leads us to believe they will) and can revolutionize gaming moving forward.

It's like GeForceNow for me.  How do you use a GPU in the cloud to such great effect?  It still blows my mind when I think about it...

I agree with the vast majority of responses to David's post, something was underestimated by those responsible for FS2024, I would add, delivering a product on time without it being minimally ready for use. But I believe in their commitment, and I'm looking forward to it.

You know what?

My employer promotes some of its laziest, weakest, and worst employees to be managers.  Every time the selected person is announced, I feel like I can't take a breath and I'm left baffled and puzzled*.  At some point, I realized that my expectations/qualities of a manager differ from that of my employer.

Same applies here.  We expect Asobo/MS to build a sim to our expectations.  However, their expectations are different.  They want money first and that always has to be first.  Our expectations come second, third, etc.

* I have no desire to join management or enforce/promote their agenda.
