The encryption on the 2020 marketplace was broken almost immediately and quite possible offered significantly less protection than that on third party stores.

There is no protection once the version from 3rd party stores have been unzipped/decrypted and put in the Community folder. Some of the stuff I bought have been from 3rd party stores and the version that is placed in the Community folder has no protection at all from piracy. The key point you are missing is pirates are pirating the final unzipped/decrypted version that is placed in the Community folder.

With marketplace purchases, those are atill encrypted when it's dowloaded to the hard drive and placed in the MSFS subfolder structure. Granted, the encryption may have been broken as you mentioned, but it does offer better protection for 3rd party developers, versus no protrction at all for the final Community folder version.

The Longitude does many of the things that the CL650 does, it just doesn't have study screens to show how the sausage is made. For example, the hydraulics system uses a physics based flow system

It's really difficult to talk about piracy on a responsible forum

in terms of third party stores any plane that uses a WASM module can have a security added and stores like Just Flight use that to disable an add-on if it doesn't recognise the installation. My guess is that doesn't prevent a determined attack, but it does at least prevent trivial copy and paste.
And unfortunately with the encryption mechanism broken, that's no more protection than the Marketplace in 2020 offers.

One thing MS could do would be to flag and ban people running marketplace-only planes on accounts that don't possess that plane but they haven't done that so far.

I'm curious about the openstreetmap integration they talk about.

What's there to know? It's just a map on the EFB. Nothing all that interesting.

There are no "teaser videos / reviews" out yet are there?

An important element appears lost in this discussion.  The issue of widespread affordability and purchases.  The potential to curb piracy provides an avenue to maintain prices in a widely affordable price level that creates wide user adaptation of highly developed models and funds development of additional future models.  It is more from what is paid for than what is at the end of the day gained from what is not paid for.

I know. That is a word salad. But give it consideration.  The pricing of models from this developer along with user response appears to be very productive in giving birth to more.

From the images they seem to have been able to get a single male pilot to show up. I hope they can do the same with the P180 now which has always had a female pilot which can't be changed.  They had said that was an Asobo issue they couldn't do anything about.

So.... should I really not be too excited for this? We are ~48 hours away from availability and there is no video and limited photo content available for the product. Just strikes me as odd.....

Honestly I think it's great that we haven't seen a flood of streams and videos yet. In my opinion most devs give the green light for previews way too early, and by the time the add-on actually releases (sometimes two weeks later), you've already seen every nook and cranny. There is nothing left to explore on your own.

Twotonemurphy will be hosting a livestream with the developers tomorrow, and it's likely that other creators will also post YouTube videos.
