The first previews of the PMDG 737 for MSFS 2024

Yes, but to claim that they don't have one at all stretches credulity.

They don't have one they are sharing. They (likely) have one internally. It may even still be here today. But if Matthijs says "We are tracking internally to our release date" people still go "release wen."

I do work in project management depending on the project, specific people are the sole communicators of scheduled release dates.

  • It definitely will be. They’ve followed the same strategy for over a decade now. I’m skipping this upgrade…enough is enough. I’m much more interested in seeing what iFly delivers with their next updat

  • This to me is the most boring release of 2025. Now where's that amazing 757 and the 767 to follow by BlueBird?

  • I try to steer clear of PMDG discussions.  I have been a faithful customer for well over two decades and I can truthfully say I’ve bought every plane they have produced, for multiple platforms/simulat

We are saying the same thing.

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

I think they simply delayed it because of the negative PR they are getting.  They hope it blows over just before they release it.  I also suspect they want to charge more than $5 to $10 for the upgrade.  Bean counter(s) probably saying $20 to $30 per frame!

They can save face by telling us that issues and features that have been mentioned will be addressed in a later update.  For example announcing a non winglet version will be in the works and whatever else other people desire.  The problem that PMDG has is they seem to have an ego that they just can't bruise.  They went into this going a certain direction and they just can't be bothered to sway away from it for the community.  I think this stinks from the top (RSR...cough cough)!

I don't know much about modern MSFS development these days but I did do some modeling and paints way in in the FS98 and FS2000 days.  I would imagine these modern modelers are really skilled at the game.  I think creating a non winglet model would be a week worth of modeling and a few days of tweaking the flight dynamics if that is even necessary.  I don't think the fidelity is really there even in FS2024 that you could really tell the difference between a non winglet and winglet model.  Even if it was it would not take long to adjust the difference.

How can anything be delayed when there was never a release date published in the first place?

Did anyone officially say: "We planned a release this week and decided to push it one week back"? I did see no such announcement in the forums. All I read is rumours.

There are two simple choices - you either buy PMDG 737 for 2024 or not! Your wallet is most powerful "voice", so why there are 8 pages of grievances, complains and whining  ? LOL

I'm not saying their products are bad, I own some of them myself, but I find especially their LNAV not very convincing. Unfortunately, I've seen most of the inaccuracies in the newest videos again.

- wobbly LNAV turns (not constant and smooth)

- not being able to follow the magenta line (for no obvious reason)

- overshooting turns

- bad ILS intercept (too tight turn at the beginning and then very slowly creeping to the LOC being nearly parallel already)

I may be asking for too much, but there are devs out there who do it better (not many unfortunately). I'm surprised flightdeck2sim doesn't point these out and only has praise for the update, because in his video alone, you can see what I mean.

To the point of this coming release being an *almost* completely new product: yeah, sure 🙃

Truly honest question (because I prefer addons that work correctly to balance out my bad piloting!): what addon handles autopilot more accurately?

It will release sometime in January and be around $70.  I'm known in certain circles as the PMDG release whisperer.

TBH, that pricing strategy would send me straight to FenixSim.com and buy me a shiny A320!

It’s really simple. I can’t speak for everyone here but I imagine a lot of people here - myself included - are fans of PMDG.

However there are a few areas where we all know they can do better. It’s obvious that other developers really lifted the bar higher in terms of quality, features and marketing.

And in every recent interview Robert acknowledged that yes, they need to do better, which is why they changed how they approach projects in a big way.

This 737 release as the first result of this change. So all of us that like PMDG are excited to see them raise their standards further like they promised.

…And yet so far it feels like business as usual.

That’s the rub. We ended up with what looks like a product that’s fine, but it could have been great. That’s where I imagine a lot of the annoyances come from.

Oh yes, absolutely, $70 definitely fits with the "around the cost of a coffee" quote that came from PMDG themselves [/sarcasm].

I still can't detect whether your post was tongue in cheek, facetious or you actually expect anyone to take your comment seriously.

Is it it just me are or are we being gaslit here a bit?
Robert was the one that spoke of it as a 2024 upgrade in all his messages and interviews, and that the cost was "a couple of cups of coffee".
On the scale of coffee to full price, I've got a feeling the price will be closer to the latter for those of us who own the 2020 version.

RSR, in his own words on YT saying it was an upgrade and will cost a, “Couple cups of coffee”. Now Kok is saying it may have been “miscommunicated” and thinks that this is a valid defense that bears no further explanation. My thought on this would be filled with “word not allowed” here at this forum. Gaslighting the whole community.

Instant buy for me!

Same here. I can’t stand PMDG as a company but heck, they make amazing performing add-ons. Can’t deny them that - even though their PR is the worst of any 🤣

Perhaps this is one of those graphic illustrations that shows it's best not to say ANYTHING to the community because it's full of toxicity and people who seem to be under the impression that they're entitled to information from a business they have zero investment in and will be unaffected by strategic decisions that get made (for better or worse) ?

The price is the price the addon gets released at, it's as simple as that. RSR is legally responsible for doing what is best for PMDG as a company, not necessarily what is best for some random screecher on a forum. He should have kept quiet until he was ready to release. When they do release, will there be whining if the price is higher than "expected" ? Yes. Is there ever a time when there isn't any whining about pricing? No. In the meantime the "overpriced addon" will work pretty much flawlessly and be fully supported by a fully funded team while they build the next product.

Of course it's absolutely possible that it will be an upgrade price as originally promised. I guarantee you someone will still complain that it isn't cheap enough though.
