September 7, 20169 yr Just recieved an email for Flight Sim com which also states "Expect a very special X-Plane announcement from Austin Meyer, the founder of Laminar Research and creator of X-Plane, and Ben Supnik, head of development for the desktop version of X-Plane. This presentation in the 200-seat auditorium will be taking place in both the morning and the afternoon, followed each time by a Q&A session." So yea, It's going to be an Xplane 11 announcement. September 7, 20169 yr I just hope they will find some time to increase tree look. Right now it's just something that kills immersion in XP10. Nice when you're flying 1000+ but awful when you're flying low. 2xBillboard trees are ugly to look at with those unbelievable shadow casted on one side. PR3D default trees are far superior with a far better integration with the landscape at daytime. Riccardo Viecca
September 7, 20169 yr I agree, the trees do need some work. And nothing compares to the Orbx-HD-Trees: Amazing look and better performance... September 7, 20169 yr Author It'll be interesting to see what features XP11 will have and whether or not Austin starts adding some things that the community wants, even if he doesn't think it's a priority. Other than already announced features, I hope we'll get: -A much improved weather/cloud engine (no explanation needed). -Regional autogen. I'd love to see English houses when landing in London or palm trees when landing in Kona. -Use of bathymetric data for water color. Similar to the above, it would be cool to have different colors of water based on the depth and location. -Seasons. Not my number one priority, but it would definitely be nice to have when flying around Canada, Scandinavia, etc in the winter. -Improved trees. If we could get 3D trees without much of a performance hit (not sure if thats possible), low-and-slow wold be that much better. -Other visual effects such as wave visuals that actually match the height set in the weather menu, water/snow/ice on the runway, etc. -Improvements to the flight model (If Murmur and José and say their are some improvements necessary, I believe them) -And probably some smaller things I'm forgetting
September 7, 20169 yr For me, seasons and a better weather engine are the bare minimum improvements I expect from X-Plane 11. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
September 9, 20169 yr And nothing compares to the Orbx-HD-Trees: Amazing look and better performance... "Better performance" But yes, seasons for XP11 are a must... There is absoloutely no excuse unlike for many other features.
September 9, 20169 yr Seasons, correct daylight according to place and date which implies correct Sun ephmeris, Moon ephmeris ( including phase ) which FSX does correctly.... Then better weather modeling, including density altitude also dependant on humidity... More plausible interpretation of variable and gusting winds. Convective systems... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
September 10, 20169 yr The only thing that can be said with certainty at this point is this : This is a accurate representation off all people commenting in this thread Apart from me winning the Lottery jackpot today....I predict: 1. Better performance, that I thought would come from a 64 bit simulator! ( FPS that don't jump about spoiling the smoothness of flight which is the immersion breaker) 2. Seasonal ground textures. 3. Ground textures that look like the ground. 4. I will stop there since its all too far in the future for my crystal ball to predict! Best regards David.
September 10, 20169 yr Moderator So who's going to be there this year, would be good to meet some people in person?
September 10, 20169 yr I hope somebody records it and posts it on youtube ! AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. Eric Escobar
September 11, 20169 yr I hope somebody records it and posts it on youtube ! +1 I never understand why these big flight sim conferences never have anyone making a professional quality recording of the keynote speeches. In this day and age its hardly difficult to set up a tripod and camera to film them Jason E Row Follow me on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/JasonRowPhotography
September 11, 20169 yr That's the environment we're supposed to be flying in, like the real pilots do. And right now, X-Plane (and all other sims) do a terrible job of modeling it. X-plane can't do it right now, but there are other games that can. It's going to melt your GPU though. Source: http://reset-game.net/?p=752
September 12, 20169 yr Well. I'm intrigued by the prospect of a new version of X-plane. Will probably get it on day one (hey, I am a flight-sim addict after all. Collecting them crazy-cat-lady style.) however I am also a bit ambivalent. Will XP11 mean square one in terms of add ons, scenery and the like? XP10 feels more and more complete and has matured nicely. It is "getting there". Now it's probably being deserted for something new and (not unlikely) "buggy and barren". With no IXEG, Saab et. cetera. I don't know. Maybe I am being too pessimistic but I really don't enjoy the thought of waiting years and years for some decent aircraft one more time. LR is generally pretty good about backwards compatibility , so I imagine most addons should work. They'll just need to be updated to take advantage of new features and to fix anything that broke.
