Come on Lucky!  You know simmers are a demanding bunch.    I think the vast majority are pleased and grateful, I know I am, but relating to the text I have changed to bold in your comment, a little bit of extra communication would be good.

Take for instance the tile swapping issue in the sim, which affects the visuals quite profoundly on the terrain (one of MSFS's biggest selling points).  Do you know then what is happening about this?  If so, please tell us, because there is not much communication on it from MS / Asobo other than logged, and it has been going on for quite some time.

If you don't see the frustration this can cause then I don't know what else to say.

Hey Bob, I agree with you, being communicative would be pretty useful to your general consensus but then I start to think of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" where the likes of PMDG, get barraged for being openly communicative because then the communications lack the substance that the community wants.

I do agree with you and understand the frustration, but I can also see why Asobo preferred to not bother about it and just release fixes when they're ready. Cause either way, someone is going to be upset

Yep!  I get it.  A lot of this frustration is caused by the difference in expectations and / or priorities between MS / Asobo and the users.  But it is their ball, their game, so it is up to them.

It is a fact that if any developer gives information (whether it is PMDG, Asobo, or Fenix etc.) and then their published deadlines aren't met, then a 'sheet shower' can emerge within hours!

I think even Fenix, who seem to be a great developer, were starting to face some criticism about the promised V2, but now the date has been announced, they are everybody's favourite developer again.    Like you said, you are "Damned if you do, damned if you don't".  People are fickle in general.

Sometimes though, just a communication such as " we are aware of the issue and it is proving difficult to pin down, but we are working on it as a priority" would pour a lot of water on the fire, rather than just radio silence.

You have a "stutter mess" at 30-40 fps ???? How ODD !  ! I have run this sim for 3 years locked at 30 FPS and have never seen a stutter  ....hhhhmmmmmmmmmm... 🤔

Yes... Its a problem. Huge drops that were not there before the update. this drops makes big stutters. Please lets not go to "30 fps is good enough". If it worked before on 90 locked and now we have this drops, something is terribly wrong. I hope its just early beta build. but then, in release notes there is nothing that could impact main engine so hard.

Avionics can, and hard... do you remember the first release builds in which the glass screens refresh rate was synced with the framerate? A workaround in an XML file made them refresh every two frames and that made us gain 15-20 fps with airliners.

Hopefully the stuttering will go away in the following beta updates and the final version.

Pretty sure about that, as i mention before it is the first Beta release..

They should fix DX12 urgently, this is a long time ongoeing bug with this texture tiles ect. Can't understand why this still happens after such a long time, needs a lot more attention from the Asobo Team side IMO..

cheers 😉

Yeah, they need to get on the case with DX12. Not only the scenery rendering issues but also the flashing that can occur when you enable bloom. They have implemented and advertised big features like frame-generation, which is dependent on DX12, then you can't sit there and hide behind a "yeah but it's experimental", not after all this time.

Besides, it's called Microsoft Flight Simulator. DirectX is literally a Microsoft product, it looks bad when a game with your name attached to it can't get your own rendering API to work properly 😅

Transparency is a hard game to play*. I am not sure to understand MS strategy here. Saying that they scour forums all over town for feedbacks, compiling wishes and bug reports , having these chat sessions and, on the other hand, barely responding to the requests (some of them absurd, most of them legit)  that emerge from the user community.

Don't make me wrong, I don't criticize them for the latter, they do as they deem fit to do for their success of their product.  They have a plan and they follow it. Thats what plans are made for. Within reasons though.

I am just pointing out at a quasi-schizophrenic communication. You can't manage communication like that and not have customers rocking the boat from time to time. Fuzziness  is not a substitute for sincerity.

The SU13 will be useful to some, and probably of no utility to others on the short term who think that there were more urgent priorities and who are ever so slightly aggravated 😉 to hear from the usual suspects that everything will be ironed out in 2024 (date TBD).It is good to hear the different voices. A forum is not a choir where everybody has to sing in unisson.

* and is overrated IMO in business as in politics but this is another story

Much to my surprise, I suffered a tremendous hit to performance after installing the new beta this evening. My overall FPS was unaffected, but I got frequent, recurring stutters. I have good hardware and never experienced these pronounced stutters since getting my new computer in February. I had flown a flight yesterday with outstanding performance. But when I loaded up the new beta tonight, the problem started instantly. There were no other changes to my system or settings. The stutters were so bad that I decided to leave the beta. When I did so, the performance problem immediately went away. Anyone else getting a big performance hit with the new beta?

I did the beta update and updated to the latest nvidia driver at the same time. Started a PMDG 728 KTPA-KIAD flight and saw the same pauses as you did. I realized that I had forgot to clear the caches, scenery indexes, etc. like I always do after any major sim or OS change. I ended the flight, ran my clean up routine, and restarted the flight. It was nice and smooth after that.

Has anyone encountered any incompatible addons yet?

Why would us users want them to spend resources on 2020 after 2024 is released?

Because not everyone will be switching to 2024 right away.

I imagine the 2020 team will get smaller the closer we get to 2024's release, but I imagine the two teams will still share devs where there is compatible overlap.

there will be bugs in MSFS2024 that were already solved for MSFS(2020)

How can you possibly know that for sure?

Simbrief integration finally.  Biggest change for me.  Hopefully the 788 sees this soon

The 78 is really great now on FS2020 and WT keep beavering away and improving it further.

Their discord is a lesson to other devs about how to interact with users.

Every day they’re on there telling people what’s going on and solving their issues, while pushing out more and more updates to the 78 and the other aircraft avionics.

Their passion and what they’re achieving in the sim is amazing.

They said initially the 787 would sit between the CJ4 and longitude in fidelity but it’s now far beyond that now. I’m really impressed with what they’re doing.

As an example, I pointed out a function in the 787 (on approach logic) that was missing or not working correctly on the 78 a while ago in the last beta, they replied instantly asking more about it and then read up about it and it appeared a few days later,  working perfectly.

The 78 is now far beyond what I expected in the sim and still improving.

For a start, if you click on the Windows start button, then type 'disk cleanup', select it, make sure it is looking at the 'C' drive in the drop down list, then select scan, the DX cache files should show in the list (as well as a lot of other rubbish like temp files etc. you can be rid of.) so then tell it to clean / delete.  That will be stage 1, and always good to do if swapping between DX11 and DX12, although this has never been total proven as necessary.

As for indexing, I think MSFS has been using a different system for a while since you can edit an ordered loading list in Dev mode.  So you may not need to worry about that.

Great!  And I can't disagree with you on that.

Do Asobo have a discord for MSFS by any chance?

MS has an extended MSFS Discord. It's actually overwhelming and following it can take up a larger part of the day. As a result I rarely look into it (but I know I should).
