PMDG Rollout for 777 is complete disaster

Featured Replies

Yeah, it really sounds like they need to hire one person that knows how to set this stuff up.

Instead we get a lot of guff about “Amazon, Google supported services” which is really just them saying they use AWS and Google Cloud, and how “email is hard to scale”. I mean, there’s lots of websites that can handle things like this in their sleep, and I’m not just talking about Amazon or other trillion dollar companies.

This is a really a solved problem, but PMDG somehow manages to make simple things very complicated!

Truth is, they clearly decided not to invest for these once a year events, which is perfectly fair. But at least don’t post long posts crowing about your amazing infrastructure when it melts down every single time

  • Mine took a little bit, as expected. But plane is installed and look great now. Does anybody have any patience these days? Or is it a thing from the past.

  • I said this in the main forum, I don’t understand why people try to purchase and download a product they already know is heavily anticipated from a company that has historically troubled launches rega

  • Really? The old "servers are overwhelmed" chestnut again? This ALWAYS happens with highly anticipated releases from ANY add-on maker. Why is it so imperative we get the latest and greatest on Day

We know the PMDG 737 Max/77F/747 will be another popular hit. Lets watch the exact same thing happen again. Unless they magically sort it out.

They make beautiful products that work great, just that the web and e-commerce isn’t their strong suit. That’s ok, as long as the planes are great!

Because someone might want to login unauthorized. I have that happen constantly with my microsoft account. I get codes sent for 2 factor identification even though I did not try to log on anywhere.

So it's good that it exists, because it means whoever these people are, they stay locked out.

You do know that someone has the credentials for your Microsoft account? As someone else mentioned, change your password as soon as possible and also on any other account where you use the same username or password. Use one of the free dark web scans, the results may surprise you.

Use a password manager to generate a complex password for every account, and use an authentication app like Authy or Google instead of SMS/Email as the code can't be intercepted.

This isn't paranoia, this is now baseline security at most businesses.

The thing is they said they stress tested clearly not enough they knew the demand so still undermined it. It happens every single time. So something needs to change. Don't have issues with other developers. They said they had learnt from the 737 release clearly not.

I completely agree, maybe one reason is that they are overcomplicating things or the particular partners they're using to host all this aren't good. Just don't see the need for some of the hyperbole out there 🙂. I'll also say that even if sales exceeded their expectations by over seven times, when that expected limit is surpassed there should be no reason for the system to collapse in the way it did. In the grand scheme of things maybe it's ok, and I don't know if other flight sim add-on vendors have ever dealt with a point-in-time load like this, who knows.

People just have to avoid jumping on purchase page like a nest of bees as soon as it's available.

Isn't that what makes long anticipated addon releases exciting though?

Counting down then constantly hitting the F5 key to refresh the page waiting on the purchase option?

Stoopid question ...  I haven't looked in a while but can't the thing be purchased via the PMDG Ops Centre ?

OrbX manage via their app.

I’ll let CarlAnthony24 answer for me. He did a better job explaining to someone else.

His answer has nothing to do with "clueless" which by the way means: Having no knowledge, understanding or ability.

clueless...really??

Have you ever met people before?

Impulse control is severely lacking in many instances. Why else was hire purchase; credit, store and charge card;  and payday loan debt so high in many countries even before Covid and the 'cost-of-living' crisis hit?

Anyway, hope you're enjoying your new purchase. (Did you use a credit card? 😄)

PMDG makes top of the line simulation aircraft of that there is no doubt. State of the art.  Flawless perfection and performance there I will capitulate.  Where they demonstrate a clear cluelessness or even a type of insanity (“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” -Albert Einstein) is in the method and manner of their content delivery and management, including DRM, of their intellectual property. I’ve been a PMDG customer for just about two decades (QOTSII).  They constantly fail with Release Day releases, far more than their competitors do. So if you find clueless over the top how about insane then.  Is a three hour delay the end of the world?  No, certainly not and anyone who feels that way should find a new hobby, but…Is it proper or even good business to charge seventy seven dollars and change for a digital product that is designed and meant to be bought and consumed instantly but then delay that consumption for hours while having taken payment instantly?  No it’s not and PMDG needs to fix their game because their competition is making them look like rank amateurs imo.

I rest my case!

Sound like you have "runway trim". I did some manual flying and haven't noticed any issues.

I have atteptded to download my purchase completed 3 hours ago.  It took over and hour to receive a verification e-mail.  After that arrived I have requested at least 15 times a two-factor authentication code without any result.

Perhaps, Mr. Redanso ought to get off his high horse and address the demand.

Hi Stefan A. Piel

So sorry to hear you had to wait that long! Maybe you can wait 6 months and then try it again? Hope my idea works out for you.

If Taylor Swift fans can still crash Ticketmaster we can still crash PMDG!!!
