November 21, 20241 yr I pre ordered and didn't get round to installing on the day. I have now been refunded, 2024 is not for me not just for the technical issues but more for the reviews and cloud dependency. As a home cockpit owner, I find the direction of travel continues away from my needs. P3d just doesnt cut it for me now and my interest is diminishing as a result. Anyone want to buy a 777 cockpit lol

November 21, 20241 yr I finally was able to fly for a few minutes (didn't have any more time) with most of the textures loaded. Although the ground textures still looked a bit blurred. I think I can say with confidence that when the initial release problems have been solved this will become a great sim. I see the potential. There are a lot of improvements. Simple things as getting to the main menu after a flight within seconds (although I usually press Alt-F4 LOL), the LIDO charts, the control bindings (yes, seriously, I find the control menu a huge improvement over 2020! You just have to get used to it! It offers way more options and works a LOT easier!), improved atmospherics (or how you call it). The sim certainly isn't there yet but it will get there, I am sure! Anyway, this topic started about the 'stupid GUI': well, imho the GUI is awesome. Far better than the one in 2020. You can get everywhere a lot easier and quicker. It all feels more like ONE (or however you say that). More coherent. It is a HUGE improvement and in fact it's one of the reasons I like 2024 a lot more than 2020 already. The main little problem left is the actual flying LOL!!! Edited November 21, 20241 yr by mistolip
November 21, 20241 yr All of these complaints about the GUI but no suggestions on how to make it better 🙄 Personally, I think the GUI overall (free flight, selecting a plane and location, changing weather, etc) is MUCH better than 2020. GUI's are a personal preference after all. Asobo probably used telemetry from 2020 to try and make it easier in the long run. I like the music a lot better too 😄 But as for the controls, I agree it could be easier for common controls, depending on the type of controller hardware you are using. Basic joystick or yoke? I need to see critical control surface axes, throttle axis, and digital buttons for brake, flaps, trim, and common view settings such as panning. Rudder pedals? I need the rudder and brake axes. It would be nice to have additional filters to see just what you really need. But that is pretty much where the easiness ends. Advanced hardware NEEDS advanced setup, and it's going to take time to configure! This is not geared toward Xbox at all... there are HUNDREDS of things you can map to controls. I just wish Asobo had an export and import option... this would let manufacturers release default profiles for their hardware and would let end users upload settings to flightsim.to. With all that said, I found it easiest just to search what I'm looking for and map that way. The biggest PITA was the hat switch, since it was hard to make the sim recognize up-left, down-right, etc. as single switches since it's so easy to accidentally bump up or left when choosing up-left. And sometimes it can be difficult determining what to search for (in the case of the hat, where I want to use it to pan, I had to search for "look" instead of something like "view".) I just don't think this is worth getting so upset over though. There are people here to help. And this is complicated stuff BECAUSE Asobo lets us customize so much! Dumbing it down would be offering the common stuff that joystick or gamepad users need and then forcing everything else through obscure config files so it doesn't confuse casual users.

November 21, 20241 yr I will stay away from MSFS 2024. I have only seen a few videos where there was some success in getting a flight off the ground. Longtime live streamers on YT faced controller binding issues and struggled with the GUI. Why so many changes? Do not fix what isn’t broken! I did not enter the Tech Alpha as I was away on vacation; I am glad I did not waste my time. I will keep my money in my pocket and keep enjoying MSFS 2020. \Robert Hamlich/

Thanks but last time I checked in 2020 it didn't stop the VC rendering, which is the critical part. Its useless for home cockpits ! Asobo did say they want to get to a position where the user can decide what parts get rendered but nothing materialised in 2020. I was hoping 2024 would address appears not. I know there has to be balance between gamers and simmers, but my view is that MS/Asobo are leaning to the gamers now as the main funding stream which I understand financially. 2024 has obviously been "leaned" out to work better on a console, it still looks amazing, it just doesn't suit my needs anymore.

November 21, 20241 yr I find it odd that an airliner captain would find it difficult to overcome change. Yes the 2020 to 2024 GUI changed but it's so minor compared to flying an airliner hehe. I also think the change is better and I detailed my reasoning why earlier in the thread. The controller setup is pretty powerful and it's not too hard to bind your controls. If you want to unbind a control just hover over it with your mouse and press Del. To bind you just click on the blank space and press a button on your controller. (Just make sure the proper device is check marked on the left side). | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 21, 20241 yr The trend today is for UIs to take the maximum amount of screen space to display the minimum amount of useful content and it's unquestionably true Asobo have enthusiastically embraced this trend.

Unless you completely switch to a new manufacturer, the similarities between different aircraft types are so big that findig your way around the flightdeck is easy. And you get at least a month of guided line training to learn the new quirks. It's not like you are thrown into the cold water. With a new Sim, no one is going to babysit you through the GUI. You have to learn it all by yourself.

In 2024 there's no such option. Setting for example, look up left in my hat switch is a pain, since I have to try several times until it gets the correct assignment (POV up left instead of POV up+POV left+whatever the sim thinks I pressed). Luckily there are reports of FSUIPC (which I use) working there. I'll try setting up the minimum possible in FS, and then the rest in FSUIPC. November 21, 20241 yr The UI did need improving. For instance I always found the drag bars too narrow and difficult to pick up with the mouse at times. However, it is obviously the least of the sims worries at the moment. One thing, I am enjoying the humour from both sides of the argument. I just wish people wouldn't get so serious at times. Although it is frustrating for a lot of people at the moment, and they have paid good money, the sim will start to fall into place over time. I know it is never as quick as we all want though.
