  • I visited my son this morning in Newcastle (EGNT - although he doesn't live at the airport 😄). I've had a good 90 minute session with the PMDG 737-800 for MS2024 and here are my thoughts:- P

  • What a stupid organization to find and select the right aircraft+livery. In the MSFS 2024 menu we have now 5 entries for the PMDG 738-800 together with MS/Asobos configure/variant/livery options it is

Bought it at PMDG, got the discount and installed via OC3, no problems.

Come come, that takes hundreds of man hours. You need to wait for 2028 and pay for the super duper first time in the industry PMDG SuperTab. It'll be the price of a few cups of coffee - on the moon!

Jokes aside, I recall them saying they will update the EFB over time. Whether they will or won't.. who knows!

That information required to do those calculations is not contained in the FMS Nav data that Navigraph supplies. It may (or may not) be supplied in the AIRACs used by R/W FMS systems. The simulator EFB knows the total runway length, but one cannot assume that automatically equates to TODA (for instance). The EFBs used in r/w aircraft usually calculate takeoff and landing performance data from a separate app that is independent of the aircraft systems, and contains its own dedicated database. My company uses ARINC Direct for performance calculations which is a subscription service of Collins Aerospace.

It would not be reasonable to expect any flight sim add-on aircraft to be able to do these kinds of calculations - the required data is just not available in a consumer flight simulator. The best that can be done is to do a basic balanced field length takeoff calculation based on total published runway length taking into account aircraft weight, engine thrust setting and OAT.

Thank you, Jim.
I did not know that information. Regarding EFBs and tablets that I'm aware of, they all have the information in the database and perform these calculations. For the tablets, there are also internet connections that can connect directly to ARINC or other providers. I suppose it ultimately depends on what the company chooses to allocate funds for.
I researched Navigraph, and they provide comprehensive runway data. Why don't they have an easy entry for intersection departure calculations, versus just runway length? Much easier than going on 10-9 and figuring out all that data, which might be a time-consuming task in certain situations and an opportunity to make calculation mistakes.
Anyway, happy holidays.

I like the new sounds. Out of interest what are the occasional tinkly sleigh bell sounds that occur in cruise? Not unpleasant and very Christmassy.

word not allowed, tried to buy it but it looks like I'm not getting a discount, I assume one must own the 800 variant specifically (I own the 700) to get the discount...bummer.

I'm afraid so - There was a bug when it was first out when it would allow anyone to get the discount (if they had the other 737s) I believe. But they soon fixed that. So yeah, the official ruling is you would only get the discount on the -700.

No worries, I'm not in a hurry to get it, I rather wait until it comes out, no sense in paying full price now.

Well, after maybe a couple of dozen attempts on two different PCs and four different browsers last night and this morning, I just went to have one last look and this time got the discount (as a -600 and -700 2020 user).

Who knows what's going on there, but definitely worth keeping on trying.

Hi , i have set the sound to Sonic but the GPU sounds simular outside vs inside the VC. Really Loud

For those of you got it, noting this section of the PMDG documentation where they list the "What's new": have you seen any improvements in ground handling, edge-of-envelope flight dynamics such as the scenario mentioned below, etc?

Flight Model

The entire flight and ground model has been updated to MSFS 2024 specifications. Feedback from type-rated 737 pilots within our development team has been incorporated to refine handling characteristics. Special focus was given to edge-of-the-envelope behavior. For example, an engine-out landing at the maximum demonstrated crosswind component (33 knots) is now achievable within the model’s aerodynamic envelope.

Yeah, people have queried it on their official forums but they're adamant that it's not happening and claiming that those who have managed to get it are "trolls".

But there's definitely a flaw (intentional or not) in their online shop that's allowing some owners of variants other than just the -800 to get the discount as well.

Really??? They are losing money and can't bother to check? Wow. That is not something I expected.

.. Well good for all of us! They won't fix the bug then and we can continue to "troll"
