New DLSS Version 310.5

I have a 5090, always run 4k DLSS on lg oled C4, very happy with this, but which preset should I use? My testing shows to me preset K, but that does not make any sense when new presets are out.

It's part of Nvidia's DLSS 4.5 they just released at CES. Two new presets (L, M) Both hit performance quite hard on 4xxx series and below compared to Preset K (DLSS 4). Preset M is meant to

I am in VR (Varjo Aero) and the new DLSS 4.5 with preset L nearly completely eliminates ghosting of the speed and altitude tape of an airliner PFD as compared to DLSS 4.0 with preset K. That's with NV

Think I'll wait until some further tuning is done on this before subjecting my ageing 3090 to 4.5. TBH, 4 with preset K and framegen is already pretty much perfect in pancake mode so not feeling like I'm missing out on too much more.

On a side note, I started a new playthrough of Cyberpunk for the first time in 4 / preset K, and whoa, that game looks stunning now and runs like a dream. Path tracing / ray reconstruction at a steady 80FPS with  a 5-yr old rig? A fitting swan song before we all submit to the hell of subscription GPUs.

Hopefully this is useful for some.

In VR it is a godsend - 4080s, quest1, preset L, quality: looks like TAA with oversampling but buttery smooth performance and no aliasing at all, the displays ghost a bit but they're much, much better than before with any DLSS setting. Tried PMDG777 and fenix and all went very very well.

I find this video by far the best explanation I have seen sofar

I am in VR (Varjo Aero) and the new DLSS 4.5 with preset L nearly completely eliminates ghosting of the speed and altitude tape of an airliner PFD as compared to DLSS 4.0 with preset K. That's with NV driver 591.74, RTX4090, 13000K, and using DLSS in-game "BALANCED".

I think it is a big step forward. DLSS has the advantage that it eliminates the shimmering seen with TAA and it adds important fps (in my case 10-15fps) to the game which is extremely important in the demanding VR mode. Drawback until 4.5 has been the ghosting seen in glass cockpits, which are now gone with DLSS 4.5 or at least can be easily tolerated (the N1/N2 indications still show some ghosting on the engine display).

Regards,

Chris

I have read elsewhere that selecting DLSS instead of TAA uses more VRAM. Is this correct?

I tried DLSS 4.5 with the 591.74 driver.  There are improvements there, but none that I really need for my VR flying.  In fact I got somewhat lower FPS so I reverted back to 580.88 and DLSS 4 and got the FPS back.  Every driver I've tried since 580.88 has been like this with my computer, see my sig.  Hoping that it'd be different this time, oh well.  Now back to sim flying.

Has anybody already tried it in 1080p, with a locked native framerate (let's say, 30 FPS)? I understand the ghosting effect is worse in these conditions I mention. I can test, but not until next week. This weekend I'll be a bit busy for personal reasons.

very nice.

I have been using DLAA for a long time, though have tried DLSS quality using Profiles K, L and M.  For DLSS quality, I found profile M to be the best.

Is there anything here at all if you use DLAA?  For me, it seems that I have lost a fair bit of performance in DLAA since installing the new Nvidia driver and DLSS 4.5.

the driver is probably not the issue but DLSS 4.5.

Preset M is power hungry. extra AI costs 5 x more compute, i.e. extra GPU cycles = more workload, as explained by Daniel Owens youtube review of DLSS 4.5 that I had posted above. you can always use the older, less demanding preset K.

I found that the new DLSS 4.5 with preset M did not work well using Smooth Motion instead of FG. But it works great, really great, with DLSS frame gen. DLSS 4.5 improves performance a lot for me.

4.5 + M and DLSS Anti Aliasing yields less glass screen blur than the old 4.0 with same settings. But It still can't match TAA. But the f.p.s. and smoothness is way better than before 4.5.

It really depends what type airplane (glass or analog instruments) you fly and how powerful your RTX GPU is, again as Daniel Owen has shown in his DLSS 4.5 youtube I posted above. in the analog Baron I get fantastic results with preset M and DLSS Balanced in MSFS graphics settings. no more disturbing moiree caused by fine stripes on building/hangar textures or flicker along fences.

we'll probably all have to find our individual favorite setting, while we wait for the holy grail of DLSS 5 and RTX 6090.

messed around with new DLSS latest version tried in PMDG 738 at FNC, then Fenix A320 at LHR. FPS wise its the same before updating just ignore it on the differences I get the same regardless. Pulling 100fps at LHR. Default preset. TAA compared with DLSS
