  1. Past hour
  2. Here more exciting news about the next release coming from JustSid (source: discord). And this is only about the wipers and rain/ice effects: Let's see... - Wipers pick up rain streaks - The surging every few seconds is fixed - Icing does what you would expect because the system now simulates and tracks ice accumulation - Icing gets affected by the wind direction, so surfaces pointing into the wind will receive icing - Icing is read back from the GPU simulation and pumped into the FM so that the flight model and visuals match up - Rain spawning is affected by wind direction and gravity, so it won't just spawn on surfaces pointing away from the wind - Rain streaks are no longer laminar but get turbulent flow and streak no longer in a straight line - Rendering resolution is improved - The whole system uses less VRAM - There's a bunch of additional commands authors can use to modify the behaviour of the rain, so eg. planes like the Citation X can now properly implement their super hydrophobic coated glass and no longer see streaks on them
  3. I had the same thing happening to me when I tried to use vsync in the game settings. I didn't like working with GSYNC in my NCP.
  4. Flying around NZ the past couple days and I have been noticing quite a bit of terrain morphing, kinda like steps in the terrain that keep moving as if the ground height is constantly being adjusted in the vicinity of the aircraft. Got me wondering as I have Orbx New Zealand Mesh installed. I have checked it is the current v1.1.0 version. Anyone else notice this and/or is this a known issue? Is this mesh even still relevant as I know that the NZ WU a while back added improved mesh anyway.
  5. Thank you for a concise and well thought out guide. Appreciate your contributions.. Thank you.
  6. Although there is no logical thing, that I could see, that would have any effect on the matter, I thought I'd give it a try. Ya'know what? I was right! 😀
  7. I don't own this yet. A couple of pics from the manuals:
  8. This will only work with Windows 11 Pro. There is no domain join on Windows 11 Home.
  9. @jcomm, SODE v1.8 won’t work with v5. Get v1.71 here. https://sode.12bpilot.ch/?page_id=1471
  10. 1. The latter. Well, it uses MSFS graphics and cloud textures and stuff, but nothing in regards of weather data. 2. All three make use of it. Some probably are not working in passive depiction mode (e.g. those that actively influence clouds or transitions, obviously, with MSFS taking over the cloud depiction).
  11. Reinstalled p3dv5 to have a clean install with just fslabs Airbuses and orbx global, vector and Europe LC, but when I installed the simconnect fsx acceleration for sode 1.8.0, when I start p3d the window never appears. Have uninstalled sode and fsx acc simconnect, but I always have to force the window to appear through the task manager 🥴
  12. Thanks for updating your settings guidance. I will definitely give this close scrutiny as you have proven to be a consistently sound and thorough expert on MSFS settings and system enhancements. Well done Captain! Rich
  13. @ampharoah, open AiCompanion and run BGL Check. I think that’s what it’s called. If your paths are correct as seems probable it will show any warnings and errors. You could also run Stats and select the Global option. See what that returns. To show screenshots you need a hosting company where you can store the images and link to them here.
  14. Minor update. The originally posted flightplans (from Thursday) do not have the explicit names for the POIs. Those should be just fine as simple waypoints (WP1, etc). However, if you want one set of flightplans with the POIs explicitly named in the *.lnmpln and *.pln and the NONAMES version separately, then simply redownload the flightplans. The actual plan for flying is the same, but now you have the option of having a version that has the names explicitly marked – if you want to follow along.
  15. Very true! I also wish they had added a few more realistic GPS options such as a single GNS 430, a single GTN 650 and perhaps the excellent freeware KLN90B.
  16. I appreciate all the above responses! Couple of questions: 1. Does Live weather with the Active Preset mode make any use of MSFS live weather? Or is it mainly based on METARS and interpolation (smoothing) between them? 2. Do all three Active Preset options make use of the many variables you can set with the AS controls, or is that only for the Live weather option? I realize these questions have likely been answered somewhere in the 60+ pages of the various AS threads, but it is not always easy to find them. Thanks very much, Al
  17. I think so. iniBuilds has been developing several aircraft for Asobo, including two that will be included in MSFS 2024.
  18. v1.2 - Trim tab adjustments added to the walk-round. Has anyone found them ? I can't see where they are carried out.
  19. Today
  20. You are not wrong about the right way to say it, but your description is slightly off. There are two basic modes: Passive and Active Preset modes, which are either Live MSFS with air effects from ASFS (Passive) and not MSFS weather where ASFS injected there weather and more air effects (Active Preset). Within Active Preset mode, there are three options: Live weather, Historical Weather (which you can set independently or through the time in the sim via a locking option) and Custom weather for a certain geographic region that you define on the map.
  21. There's no real need to predict in real live, you just request the ATIS via the FMC and you know the active runway(s).
  22. Great work Laminar! @jcomm will appreciate this too. 😁
  23. My understanding is that in real life being able to predict the arrival runway is difficult unless one is close to TOD-P2ATC will assign this around 4 minutes before TOD if you use the settings to allow random allocation. You can also request a different approach with the pilot controlled option checked in the config menu.
  24. Well, you have an option to build your own static preset using AS just as you would with the sim weather but yes, "presets" as you say is more descriptive of how it is forced to circumvent the limitations imposed by Asobo.
  25. I posted a video in the tips and tricks subforum. For increased visibility, I'm making a thread here in the main forum, as I'm not sure how many people check out the T&T subforum. In this video I go through all my settings and tweaks that I've refined over the last few years. Goal: to get the best performance and image quality possible. I hope it’s helpful! Topics: MSFS settings Nvidia control panel settings Windows settings Nvidia profile inspector settings How to update DLSS versions How to use DLDSR HDR calibration How to make FG work G-Sync settings Using the Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) overlay to fine-tune performance …and maybe some more that I’ve forgotten about Perhaps this thread can be used to discuss various settings as I'm sure there's quite a bit of variation here, based on personal preference and hardware configurations. We have a few relatively current threads on DLSS, but there's not been a general settings thread for a while I think.
  26. Thanks for that lxoye. I ran through that link and checked that al the steps had been followed and were up to date. I did have Game Mode on, though I thought I had previously disabled it. BIOS, drivers, Xbox app and Game are all installed and up to date. It was useful to check though.
