Personally, I hate what this hobby has become over the past 28 years. Over-opinionated know it alls, many of which have never heard of the FS Compuserve Forums, many of which have no idea of Avsims origins and yet even more who try to out think Microsoft. Twenty five years of speculation and the growth of net access aside, nothing has changed apart from possibly Microsofts direction with Flight (and yes things do change). I am quite sure that if they are changing direction, then they have done some market research to justify that. What pleases me most after all these years is that (possibly), with fsx, we have a mature sim that will work well (and possibly be supported) for many years to come. It appears that we also have 3 new platforms to investigate and for flight simmers that HAS to be good news. So for all you kiddies that want to jump up and down complaining about developers expressing an opinion and if there are any developers complaining about MS (which I have not yet seen) - GET A LIFE, because this hobby is in the best shape it has ever been. The difference is in how it runs, i.e. its use of multi-cores and the GPU, it's potential, and its additional features. Thus it is different in ways that really matter. Which incidentally, is also the case for all of the other examples you quoted, especially Creative Suite, since the student version is not the extended version of the CS apps and does not have all of them either, moreover it isn't 1,900 bucks for Creative Suite, it's a lot more than that, there are I think the last time I counted, thirteen applications in CS, and they average about 250 quid a pop. Most of the student versions are a selection of the big three, typically PS, InDesign and Illustrator, with occasionally Acrobat in there as well, but they aren't the extended versions. Al
On CS .. i quoted the price that matches up with the student version.

I have been running P3D since release, I remember getting a hammering here at avsim for dare mentioning the word P3D, lots of devs jumped on me accusing me of breaking EULAs etc etc, glad to finally see some interest here and look forward to seeing what the main players can do working with LM, of course I will still buy flight, its looking really good but for certain the market will dictate so come on LM pull it out the bag

Careful Frank, or you may find yourself getting a letter from our legal counsel for slander. At no time have we ever stated we are under NDA with MS. Even if we were, we could not confirm nor deny it. You refer to my recent interview at a blog site where I share my opinion about Flight being very different to FSX. If you stop for a moment and have a deep think about that, there is enough information which has been publicly released on the official Flight website to determine some simple things: 1. They are clearly developing a very beautiful and attractive sim, which appears to build on FSX and add a lot of nice shader code and then some. This is something that we as developers can easily establish using our eyes. We're actually really excited by what they are producing and we hope that we can develop addons for it some day, once we get our hands on an SDK. This is no different to FS2004 and FSX. First comes the sim, then the SDK, then third party addons. 2. They have only shown screenshots and video from what appears to be Hawaii, and as far as we can tell, only smaller aircraft. We hope to see screenshots from other parts of the world, but so far these are not forthcoming. This leads us to conclude the initial release may be localised to one area. Again, this is simply a matter of logical deduction, not any breach of some supposed NDA. 3. They have publicly stated that there will be a strong tie-in to Games For Windows Live, which as we all know is now known as XBOX Live. Again, this probably means that their release model may be different to FSX and FS2004 before it. We have zero clue as to how Flight is going to be distributed or released. Once again, this is just using pure logic. So please understand, based on the above public information, I was able to say in the interview that I think Flight is a different proposition to FSX, purely based on what we know. If you would like to continue to imply that somehow we are behaving in an improper manner then I suggest to think long and hard about doing so. We take a very dim view of any NDA breach, since we have Orbx NDAs in place with many companies and we expect them to respect our paperwork too. We are a developer, and we deal in facts. I have simply offered my opinion on known facts. Please leave it at that and not embark on accusations or wild speculation.
Now this should have been a PM .... Shame On You.gif

I know where you are coming from, but this isn't a regulated group ageing with experience. 10 year old kids become 20 year old adults, but that doesn't stop the next generation of 10 year old kids joining in let alone the non-english speakers occasionally phrasing things differently making it sound as if they're being opinionated. I know what you mean overall though............
If you persist in this line Frank I will contact the AVSIM mods and have them take action. This is not acceptable to us. This is my last warning.
John,You don't need to.I gave this gentleman a 30 days break from the forums. This kind of attacks are nothing but detestable.

What do you think about setting up a forum for Prepar3D as John suggested (IIRC).... seems like a good idea, IMHO.

Matthew S

Hello A Prepar3D forum is a great idea, SpiritFlyer as the moderator please.

David what the heck are you doing, Frankla's comments were fine and many people in this thread including myself can understand his opinion. Please take the time to read the whole thread before jumping to conclusions just because a developer got his panties in a bunch, he should have known better and not made the interview in the first place.

Cheers, Andy.

30 days does seem a little extreme... maybe a "3 day break" would have been reasonable, especially as a "first warning".

FranklaWhat's up with you? I normally agree with your inputs on these forums, but you have unnecessarily turned what was a rather exciting forum discussion into a self-righteous crusade on ethics and morality. Counter-productive and totally uncalled for.

Wow, so much for freedom of speech around here. I agree Frankla could have chosen his words more carefully, but it is unbelievable that a person who speaks his mind gets banned for 30 days. And the fact a commercial developer asked for it publically leaves a very bad taste in my mouth Talk to the Hand.gif

Cheers, Bert

orbx say they have invested millions of dollars in that interview? really, millions of dollars........ I would guess not as i have heard many a time how small the real FSx market is, if millions how did the Orbx legal PR machine allow that interview to take place.....! lol Avsim suck up to commercial devs because its what keeps Avsim running and free for all of us, so i guess the 30 day ban makes sense
