As I see the link to the HDE clouds, there's also above the link to HDE skycolors.

DO NOT use HDE skycolors!

As nice as they do look (I tried them myself), they change shaders. And messing with shaders is the last thing you do want. That doesn't only affect ASN, but all other weatherengines, too. You'll get scary side effects like cloud patterns etc.

Don't say, I haven't warned you! ;)

What are you talking about? The HDE sky textures for FSX are just replacement textures, same as REX, FEX or any other sky texture replacement. How would this change your shaders? That would be like saying dont use REX sky colors because they change your shaders.

In fact I, along with many others have been using the FSX version for years with no problems. Obviously you cant put the FS9 version since they aren't compatible.

Please enlighten us on how the HDEv2 sky textures screw up your shaders since no one else using them has reported this, including me. Even if it did screw them up you just flush the shader cache and let them rebuild, but this shouldnt happen when changing a sky set.

  • $50/$30 and no textures..  Gotta pass on that..  Did the same for Opus.. Weather depiction alone isn't worth that much to me.. AS2012 will stay

  • Yesterday I tried to make a comparison between ASN and Opus. I have been using Opus with full satisfaction for the last year and I was curious to compare it with ASN, after all the hypes and comments

I'd started to notice a bit of a stutter too with ASN running.

I hadn't noticed at first, I think because the first few flights were with the Airbus Extended, which is pretty light on frames overall.

First trip out in the T7 and I noticed something was up as soon as I started to pushback. It isn't a showstopping stutter, but, if you know your system well you'd of course notice it right away. So I decided to try and confirm the cause, reloading the same situation with different combinations of aircraft/time of day/etc, and for me anyway, as long as ASN was running, there was a slight but certainly noticeable stutter, which was especially apparent during taxi/turns.

Tried with the NGX, same result as T7.

Just for laughs I tried setting affinity for the ASN process, and it actually seems to have worked. First try I just set it manually via task manager. Then I went old school and installed AlacrityPC (Thanks again, Ken !) and reloaded the same situation, still smooth.

So long story short, if you are noticing a stutter with ASN running, maybe try forcing it to the last core. It really does seem to have smoothed things out for me. Your mileage may, and probably will, vary.

Brian Doney

Anyone else not that impressed with cloud coverage over the Atlantic? There should have been a nice big storm and a bunch of clouds but instead I had nothing but clear skies with scattered clouds the entire trip JFK-Europe

Thanks for the quick responses, I unistalled AS2012 just to be on the safe side then proceeded with my ASN install.

I really can't believe that almost anyone here never tried fsgrw!!!!!?

I tried and used it, until I quited using FSUIPC on my last FSX + DX10 install. As a beta tester for a sequence of AS products, I am still able to acknowledge what I find well done in other weather injectors I use, and FSGRW really left me a very very good impression!

This being said, FSGRW can't be compared with ASN when it comes to the way ASN manages such things as visibility smoothing and transitions between different cloud layers and coverage types, turbulence and precipitation associated with precise positioning of the clouds causing it, shear, microburst and overall down / updrafts, influence of orography in the winds ( making ASN a great weather injector to use for mountain soaring in FSX - I recommend using Aerosoft's Discus X! with it!!! ).

So, yes I have used, and will probably use again when new updates are released, FSGRW, and I find it a very good weather injector as well, but ASN really introduced features never found / modeled this way in FSX / P3Dv2 following...

There is a fly button to hit. Not being silly, Im just sayin you might may have missed that or just forgot

Anybody getting an API.dll error on closing FSX with the latest version of FSUIPC ? Using the latest one from Pete's site to work with ASN. FSUIPC Version 924.

Have gone back to previous version, and all good.

Can you provide the crash details on my Support Forum please? I need the stuff from the Windows event viewer.

Yes, but also Skycolours do not harm. I was wrong!

These are just textures ... no shaders.

The person I responded to posted 6 times the exact same response even after you said you were wrong and I didn't see that as I was looking only on the last page.

My aim was not asn, but opus! Sure asn has new features that the others weather providers doesn't have and we never saw before.

I just found strange everyone comparing opus with asn and disregarding fsgrw, which in my opinion is a few good steps ahead of opus.

I also have to report fps lost with asn. I notice it mainly when passing thru big conglomerates of culumbus clouds. And if inside a storm, I noticed to have lost around 10 fps or more with the ngx. It sure takes a toll on my system... :-\

I turned my AccuFeel off during the flight to see what was causing all the ruckus. I didn't notice any difference except for the absence of the wind sound. What additional did AccuFeel do, and what are your turbulence settings? Thanks.

Turbulence in fsx set to off, in accufeel default for 737-800 and in as full. The rumbling sound during cloud turbulence is the difference. Warning - it is creepy!;) during normal wind turbulence much quieter.

I am using Opus at the moment. Is it possible to use Opus live camera with ASN ? I never got EZDOK to work with the latest TrackIR software update. So Opus it is for me at the moment.

Stupid of me just found the demo. So will try for myself

Well, I'm sure the team will look into this, but honestly I have had the smoothest ride under all circumstances I've tested during the last months. It's true that I am on DX10 ( through the fixer ) and this can improve the performance, but even under severe thunderstorm situations, with the PMDG T7, I never noticed such fps drops ...

I'll continue testing...
