December 10, 201312 yr Just did a 5 hour flight and its the first MD11 flight ever that did not have a wind shift. "PROF" was still active all the way through. On approach, the overcast was heavy with precip, but oddly enough, there was barely any FPS hit, as it was very satisfactory. The smooth transition of coming out of the clouds is certainly a different experience in FSX. Im sure it will be even better in p3d. The map radar overlay has alot of useful info. And 122.00 and 122.5 was clear with a good amount of information. Worth the upgrade IMO CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
December 10, 201312 yr A bit tougher on FPS - but I think it is simply the cloud density and realism is consuming more resources to render properly. Makes me think I need to move from my 930 i7 to something a bit new. Scott Robinson
December 10, 201312 yr Haven't tried the demo yet, but I wonder if part of all this is just a placebo. No, Ryan. Just... no. If you're a weather guy, you MUST try the demo. My first flight tonight with ASN, and I'm very, very impressed. My thanks to Damien and the HiFi crew for giving us a full 7 days to play, but after one night I can't imagine I won't buy this. Did a flight tonight that I've done many times - PAKT to PAJN with historical wx from July of this year. This is a tough flight on wx engines because reporting stations are sparse but conditions generally change dramatically. This flight featured scattered to broken to overcast conditions. What was different from other wx engines? NO sudden wind shifts. NO, sudden changes in conditions. And the subtle things... I was in and out of cloud tops and then did an approach through broken layers, and the gradual changes in visibility almost (really, almost!) made me think I was flying with volumetric clouds. Really. If you're an aviation wx junky like I am, you have to try this. I look forward to trying different things over the next 7 days and challenging this software, but... well again. If you're picky about wx, you HAVE to try this. Scott
December 10, 201312 yr MD-82 getting batted around like a shuttlecock by 150 kt winds over Chicago. Never seen anything like this before. First flight impressive.
December 10, 201312 yr Did anyone notice a FPS hit? I run practically everything on max and have been using AS2012 and haven't had any FPS issues but ASN seems to have a quite a bigger hit on FPS for some reason over AS2012. I'm not sure about AS2012, but I've been comparing it to REX-E at the same location/weather and most of the time ASN seems to have a few more fps than REX, although on one occasion it had 10 fps less in really bad thunderstorms. (I had been messing with some settings though.) ASN feels smoother to me in most circumstances. They might be able to add some rendering limits to heavy thunderstorms in order to help people who have FPS issues. You aren't the first person to mention it, so there may be a FPS hit in some conditions. There are some rough edges still (on certain occasions I have to reload ASN to get updated weather after starting a new flight - a manual reload button would be useful) but in general its really good quality. Flying right now into SunskyJet's KPHL from KMDW and haven't noticed a single windshift or awkward transition between FLs. No sudden overspeed, no altitude warnings, it's a breath of fresh air from REX. Ethan Edelson
December 10, 201312 yr Commercial Member For those having SimConnect problems from another computer, I had the same problem and HiFi's support found the issue. Unlike previous versions of AS, ASN requires that you use a SimConnect client from SDK SP2. Previous versions would work with SDK SP1. So, if you have everything else set right but still just get "Waiting for Simulator" endlessly, try updating with a SimConnect.msi package from either Acceleration, or the free SDK SP2 (google) from MS. December 10, 201312 yr +1 The HDEv2 freeware package is the most realistic out there IMO. Can you or someone else have a link for these? Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk Eric
December 10, 201312 yr Just got up in the air after installing the trial. Visually, it is superior to what I've seen from Opus (which I thought was really quite good). There's a realistic mix of white and grey clouds (raining). There were even taller cloud complexes in the areas that indicated heavier precipitation on radar. I got blown around quite a bit while ascending through the rain and clouds- not something I'm used to. The dips in visibility (going through cloud layers?) are very convincing and remind me of all the times I've been on real planes. Unfortunately it is all just a bit much for my mostly 5-year old gaming rig. The Q9550 and DDR2 ram have really taken a hit this year with the 777 and AS Next. I'll do some more testing the next couple days to see if there's some magic way to improve my frame rate, but for now it is just too much. At first glance, AS Next appears to be at the top of its class. If I can't manage to get my FPS up, it'll definitely be the first thing I buy after I can build a new rig. May just buy it to support the developer. Very well done! :drinks: Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
December 10, 201312 yr Moderator Can you or someone else have a link for these? Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk Using google I have a link for you, actually the same place I downloaded from years ago. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=hde+ The sky is the second one down that specifies FSX. The clouds are the next one down. You can use the clouds from the FS9 pack but the sky textures must be from the FSX upload which only includes sky textures since they are compiled to work in FSX. December 10, 201312 yr There are some rough edges still (on certain occasions I have to reload ASN to get updated weather after starting a new flight - a manual reload button would be useful) but in general its really good quality. Open the Debug window by pressing the "Tools" button; there's a weather refresh button there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
December 10, 201312 yr Thanks Wayne. I haven't messed with the tools window, but after checking it out now I am yet again impressed. They included a huge number of debug/editing tools far beyond a refresh button. Again, wow. Ethan Edelson
December 10, 201312 yr MD-82 getting batted around like a shuttlecock by 150 kt winds over Chicago. Never seen anything like this before. First flight impressive. XP10 when it was first released, did that to, trouble was it did it on every flight, no matter what intensity of turbulence there was. With ASN you only get this when the conditions warrant. The last couple of days were a good test for this with the big storm in the South and Midwest. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 10, 201312 yr By and large the best weather engine yet. Getting a 3-5 FPS hit which is not too bad. But ASN has brought in some stutters. Can anyone recommend some settings in ASN or FSX.cfg to eliminate the stutters.
December 10, 201312 yr What was really cool was that as I descended, the turbulence gradually reduced, then stopped. I can also report that the skyscrapers of Chicago were shrouded in mist as I was on approach to KORD. I have never seen an effect like that. As other posters have mentioned, going through a cloud will put you in a white-out. Seeing cloud formations in the distance is another thing that I can't remember seeing before, not like this. The interface is extremely easy. I liked the briefing page. It advised me that my planned altitude was good considering the winds and my route. I loved the easy-to-remember radio frequencies to get wx from your destination, or, in the alternative, for your flight. It seems to work just fine with PFPX; at least I can direct it to the proper folder and it reads it okay. Getting back to the turbulence, it was very realistic. Usually, flying in FSX is like driving a car. But this... this was wow. It really made me feel like I was flying. I know everyone has "new product feeding frenzy," but this truly does offer something dramatically new and different, at least at first blush. And it's in Euros. I'm not sure how much that is in money, but I don't think it's much
December 10, 201312 yr The best thing for me is turbulence effect - mixed it with accufeel v2 and even flying a default 737-800 is so immersive that it took my breath away - ASN is the KING. Tomasz Zawadzki
