Here's a comparison screenshot - default on the left (Active Sky historical weather in use, EDDK local time 9AM today):

I've only made subtle changes:

  • increased ambient light slightly
  • increased Rayleigh slightly
  • increased ozone slightly
  • visual cloud enhancement max

Visual cloud enhancement:

Probably my favorite setting. Might be worth getting Atmos for this one alone.

Speaking of picture I think both are inaccurate.  In the default one, I think it should be less yellow and more grey,  Where as  the rex one is more grey but is brighter.

Not meaning to be too critical of your comment, but what looks perfectly right to you is purely subjective.

I am sure we are all roughly on the same page, but will differ on the detail as we can have different colour perception.

Then how it looks will depend on if you are viewing it on a different monitor with different settings, or even a phone etc.

I bet it is very unlikely that the settings I will be happy with are the same as any of those shown up to now, but they are useful as a starting point of course.

Hi All. I wanted to post some images here to show the sort of results you can achieve with Atmos. Here is a first set and I will post more.

I did. These were my suggestions/complaints:

1. After program starts, it does not load last settings;
2. No numbers, hard to reproduce exact settings;
3. After loading a setting and making changes, you cannot save it;
4. No way to save all settings (weather, atmos, eniviro) in one go;
5. Some settings are way to sensitive. Tree color sliders are only useful in the first 10%.

I'll start by saying that I don't own FS2020 but I'm still interested in this simulation and the environmental addons.
I looked at this photo, unfortunately this sky environment is not natural, it seems to be the representation of an unknown planet with a different atmosphere than Earth and is illuminated by a star that emits much less light than our Sun.
If this is a deliberately "artistic representation"... then ok... fine, it's an artistic representation.
But if it has to be a realistic representation of an Earthly sunset, I'm sorry, we are far from realism.
On Earth there is no Sun so weak that it illuminates the scene so weakly (unless that star is a "white dwarf").
A realistic representation of an Earthly Sun at sunset should be much more similar to this:

Yeah...these were probably not the best photos to post as it is not realistic at all considering the sun is still above the horizon...I actually thought it was a shot with the full moon until I saw the crescent...

Hey efis. Those were a bit more artistic in nature and were posted just to show that boundaries can be pushed with the app. As I mentioned I will be putting more images out there, and those will show realistic view and some that are on the artistic side. Atmos gives a user much flexibility to create.

Is that preset that can be found through their UI?

That is not a preset.  It was REX Atmos depicting Active Sky FS weather.  It is an excellent combination that now after four years brings into my simulation the similar unequaled combination I had with REX Sky Force 3D textures and Active Sky 16 weather in FSX.

We are back in business.......  What a blessing are those two developers!

I'm very interested in the ozone / visibility effect; is there any way for it to be injected based on local weather reporting / forecasting?

Its interesting to "watch" my own "feelings" about almost hitting the buy button after watching some trailers and show offs. But I won´t.

It reminds me so much back to P3D days, where instead of flying I spent hours and hours more on tweaking, instead of flying (not starting a P3D MSFS Competition here!!!)

As soon MSFS 2020 came out, one HUGE benefit I recon was, WOW, all of this in one application (3D Clouds, great skies, great lights, photogrammic and streamed surroundings, LIVE weather, great haze and...and...and. And all of this "wow" was beause I compared MSFS2020 with P3D. MSFS was miles ahead of P3D when it comes to "visuals".

So I bought MSFS, and started simming.

Now in between those 4 years my opinions slowly starts changing:

- FSLTL for live traffic....in use already

- ATC Addon??? Tinkering

- Weather injection with 3th Party like ASFS??? Tinkering

- REX ATMO???......

And I decided to ask myself.....WHY on earth can´t I be happy anymore with what I have?

It´s the human brain!! It wants to make changes (getting stimulated because it´s (the brain) bored spending to much time not doing really great living importing things like sports, nature, good food, great usefull job, love, family etc. etc.. Instead it thinks, when you are able to change, put in your own "effort" and visual looks...then you will enjoy the SIM again/further......SURE (Irony off)

No. Not for me. Because it isn´t making me happy long lasting time, only short lasting and I remember exact the same process years ago with P3D (not starting a P3D MSFS Competition here!!!) But I do recon similar human brain processes wich are making me more unhappy then happy over time! btw, the whole gaming industry works exact like this and the great psychologists working at them, do provide input to get people "attracted" to GAMES (or SIMS, it does not matter - Career mode, earning any things, getting game-money etc......)

I decided for myself, to learn accept things I already have and if I feel unhappy with a SIM, I probably NEED something completely else in my life (wich has NOTHING to do with a software product). Spent LESS time simming and if the hobby is great for me, as long it´s a hobby and not an attraction, I will use the SIM as it is.

This does not mean, I won´t change anything anymore. I will buy MSFS 2024 and addons as well. I have 300+ Addons bought. Spents thousands of EUROS on my RIG and Addons as well!!! So, maybe I needed start seeing where I draw a line between hobby and fatal attraction ;-))))

Thanks at REX for your offer. But I reject on buying it.

Just some shared thoughts and MY opinion. Maybe there is just ONE other simmer out here who it helps reflect things this way because he/she recon what I wrote.

No, I am not ADDICTED. I didnt use the sim for almost 2 or 3 months now....and feel great! 😉 But I reflect things in my life as a good healthy balanced life is important to me
