SayIntentions ATC and GPT-4o announcement today
abrams_tank replied to hs118's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
If AI is that expensive, then how is OpenAI able to allow almost anybody in the entire world to use ChatGPT for free? -
I use medium as this replicates what I have experienced in RW flying the best. You do get rising air from forests in the RW and I frequently used to use it for gliding in the early evening as the trees stored the warm air during the day and then began to release it. It can be a little aggressive in msfs at times though.

Please let us know what you find. There is a theory that pregnant mothers undergoing a lot of stress have a higher likelihood of having homosexual offspring. The mommy mice would certainly have been under considerable stress. There is another factor involved. If you thoroughly convince young people that the sea level will rise 20 feet in the next 5 years (or 50 years, does it really matter?) resulting in the end of civilization as we know it, it has a certain chilling effect. They become discouraged. At that point, does anything matter? I first encountered this many years ago chatting with a young person in the Sims community. The ColdFusion channel on YouTube just published a video about Japan which some may find interesting and maybe pertinent to this discussion. It does not mention mice. China has a similar problem with young people simply giving up and dropping out. Hook

Photogrammetry (PG) gets a bad rap.
cianpars replied to Lord Farringdon's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Also meant to say that the new system ASOBO is using for photogrammetry in the City Updates is excellent and much better than the older stuff. I really hope we will see quality as good as this or better in flight sim 2024. -

I agree - PG works about 90% of the time for me (every once in awhile I get melted buildings but has seems to not be occurring as much lately). Non PG areas are fine - but I really fell like I get more color variation in PG areas and to see football fields or other signage where I can read the lettering clearly really makes the immersion level very high for me. -

I use the RK Bridger mod. It seems to be about the best. -

@Lord Farringdon Nice pics. If I may ask, what mods do you use to fix the NY bridges? There are some options on fs.to to fix the solid bridges, not sure which are best, or one package that does them all? -
What do you have your in-game turbulence setting on? I find it is all very overdone and keep it on 'Low'.....
-
But what if you use the Streamer-voices, like Jeff Favignano or whatever? Do they have a basic version too...

Another way to look at it: Microsoft has customers lining up to use their Azure AI services. AI is super hot right now and everyone wants in. You're running the business. What do you do? Sell your AI compute to enterprise customers for top dollar, or give it away to MSFS users for free? -

Moving new waypoint up doesn't update distance.
Dave-Pilot2ATC replied to FSullivan's topic in Pilot2ATC Users Forum
There does appear to be a bug. After pressing the validate button, the distances and TOD should be recalculated, but the distances in the first example remains unchanged. This should be fixed in the next release. Dave -
Is b16 good to dl now ( incl correction ) ?

You seem to have omitted the aircraft in the third shot, Jankees <grin>

Black Square Duke Released!
sloppysmusic replied to GACSavannah's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I learned that from my RealAir DT days! Have only used the factory B60 so far until I've got it perfected. On an unrelated BS (!) matter, I stopped using the previous models B58/KingAir/Baron has I found for some reason the autopilot ignored my set baro readings and only used the actual current outside pressure. For example, I'm above TRAN ALT (10000 for example) so set 2992 with cruise set for 17k. Aircraft levels at 17300 though. After much messing around I pressed B key out of desperation and BINGO ac now descends to ALT SET of 17k! If I never use STD 2992/1013 then there is no issue but of course I do....especially in Europe with STD being as low as 3000ft sometimes. This issue also means that even if I do not set STD that if the pressure has changed at all since take off the AP will NEVER be able to cruise at set altitude. Only where it READS the current outside pressure reads that altitude at. Very annoying! The current B60 does NOT seem to have that issue BTW. Was wondering if this was an MSFS default bug or just the BS. -

Absolutely. The whole spectrum is covered, pretty much. There are some areas that always look bad, some that are usually immaculate and very impressive, and then there's the general thing about how the servers are behaving. But I for one would never contemplate running the sim without it. For me the worst thing is the PG tree obelisks. Even when the surrounding buildings are good, there are a lot of places (LA is one) where the landscape is full of green concrete blocks. I calls 'em "uglifacts", and if they go away with 2024 then that in itself would be all I'd ask of the new sim. -

Streaming the image data is much cheaper than Ai. Serving data is a cheap commodity at this point. AI is expensive not just because the technology is proprietary but because it consumes large amounts of compute power and hence, electricity. Someone has to foot the electricity bill, and I'd be surprised if even Microsoft would be willing to eat the cost. I believe it could easily wipe out their entire profits on MSFS and then some. Yes, AI is that power hungry. So I'm not expecting non-subscription AI ATC to come to MSFS anytime soon. -
Odd static traffic at UK GA airfields
kiek replied to james_d's topic in PSXseeconTraffic for FSX | P3D | MSFS
Are you referring to this line for example? sp16 : GHFLW_ =1= AIGAIM_Jet2com Boeing 757-200 - Jet2 Holidays However, in the airport file I see three real entries: <parkpos id="sp16" latitude="51.587398" longitude="-0.510890" heading="267.9" radius="34.9" cargo="false" ramp="true"> <opt reg="F-RBGC" day="4" hh="19" cs="GHFLW" /> <opt reg="G-EZTN" day="4" hh="20" cs="GHFLW" /> <opt reg="G-LSAJ" day="4" hh="20" cs="GHFLW" /> F-RBGC is a B789, G-EZTN is a A320 and G-LSAJ is a B752 from Jet2. So these airlines have really visited that airport (acoording to RealTraffic), although it is a bit strange that the last two have been there almost at the same time..? -
I like to fly low and slow, but honestly those turbulences over forests seem to be overly done. Even with clear sky my plane is shaking violently as long as i am over the trees. Do you think this effect is well done and true to life ?, any possibility to tune it ?

CPU Utilisation is low
Cpt_Piett replied to captainbluesky's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I’m sure you’ll find RTSS useful, give it a try. As for the .opt file, what I do is increase shadows size to 6144 (6K), and disable most settings in post-processing (sharpen, film grain, fringe). I just think the sim looks better without these. -

By absorbing the costs, as they own some of the biggest datacenters and are equally invested in AI. Just like when people thought they couldn't possibly stream satellite data without additional cost in form of a subscription. I'd argue the image data requires a lot more bandwidth. -
I checked your flight plan above on my MSFS installation and see no issues, sorry. I tried without Navigraph MSFS update, with and without start position and with and without departure runway. All looks ok to me. No direct line between departure and destination. The difference is probably that I use the MSFS beta which means that there is a small hope that Asobo fixed something. Hopefully. Maybe. Probably. 🤐 If you use a plan from another author: Make sure that all airports and waypoints exist in MSFS. Maybe the author used the Navigraph update or an add-on airport which is missing in your sim. Reload the LNM scenery library after simulator updates or adding new airports. This ensures that LNM and MSFS are in sync. You can expect problems if LNM shows a red error message label (click this for more information) and/or red highlighted flight plan waypoints. Edit plan manually to fix this. Alex

Did you try the "low performance impact" (I don't remember the exact name) option?
