Guys, I'm a member of this really great VATSIM VSOA, and I'd like to share it with you. I am not a founder, or senior staff member. I'm just a pilot having lots of fun. Here is my plain and honest advertisement www.nwagops.com From the homepage: I fly as an Escort Pilot under the 79th Tactical Fighter Squadron (under the 20th Fighter Wing), which I command. At NWAG, we try to keep it as realistic as we can, keeping in mind that it is flight-sim, and we have limits. For example, the 79th TFS in real life is not a tactical squadron, but for NWAG sake we have made it a tactical branch to give us more options in it's operations (based on location, aircraft, etc). It's loads of fun! You can fly under a command, and have missions assigned to you, or you can fly "solo" and enjoy the privileges of a VSOA without any major requirements (only 1 hour a month). We fly on VATSIM, but we do FSX Multiplayer (Peer-to-peer, using "Hamachi" to allow us to host LAN sessions without being on the same network) for group flights to decrease lag, and be able to do aerial refueling, shared cockpit and the like. Pilots that join start out as a 2nd Lieutenant, and are given training assignments to familiarize themselves with NWAG operations, and the aircraft. We offer advanced aircraft training as well, for pilots that have no experience with military aircraft. I could go on and on.... Hello, I've started flying helicopters in X-plane around Lincolnshire, UK and am trying to use RAF Cranwell, Waddington and Coningsby tacan's to navigate my way around. Whenever I enter a frequency into nav 1, and make it an active frequency I pick it up as DME, just not VOR. I personally thought tacan is basically a military version of a VOR, but it seems to me it's more like a DME. My question is am I write or wrong in my theory? Or is X-plane 10 portraying tacans in the wrong way (which I doubt) And also how do the military use tacan to navigate, and how can I start doing this? Thank you very much Conner.

Recently I watched a video showing how to handle various emergencies in the MilViz F4E Phantom II. I was fascinated to see that landing on a military air base equipped with emergency arrestor wires, the tail-hook actually did catch the wire and brought the aircraft to a rapid halt. Can anyone tell me how to activate the wires in a military scenery or point me to location where I could learn how to do it? I'm guessing that some kind of program is also needed. Any help would be appreciated as I have often thought it would be an interesting addition to flying military jets at one of the many scenery addons which simulate the wires on the runway.

Hey all, So I have played FSX for a couple months now, and I am decent at it, but not good enough to join or create like a virtual navy squadron, which is my goal. So I'm trying to form a flight training plan for myself. I have the planes, the IRIS T-6 Texan II and the Dino Cattaneo T-45 Goshawk. The Virtual Coast Guard is accepting new members, we are a group of Flight Simulator and aviation ethuasit who conduct SAR, drug interdiciton, and oil rig operations within MS FSX. We started in 2011, and have grown adn shrunk since the demise of Gamespy. We currently have 10 active members and 16 retired members who have moved on to either real world training or starting a family. Greetings! This spring I am embarking on a European Capitals Tour, and when I laid in the routes using Plan-G it was apparent there were some really long legs, segments of 2+ hours in my normal high-and-fast selection, the Wilco TMB850. Now, I know you tube-liner guys are thinking big deal, my flight from SFO to Narita takes 11 hours, but I tend to limit myself to aircraft that seat 6 or fewer passengers and flights of 1 hour or less. I needed something fast, really fast, with range, and settled on the MilViz F-15 Eagle. Range up to 1,500 miles, up to 2+ Mach, and room for two! At first, I was concerned I bit off more than I could chew - the operating guide is 199 pages long!!! And while there is a "CTRL-E" option (the so-called Nuclear Option), I wanted to fly this model with the respect it deserved. Fortunately, MilViz provides a "quick start" guide that is only 12 pages long, and armed with that I started out. My first cold start took me 30 minutes - now I am down to 10, and I think that is pretty good. A fantastic aircraft, infused with that MilViz quality. So, the first leg of my European trip (I just couldn't wait for March 22!) is from Iceland to Scotland, Reyjkavic to Edinburgh, a distance of 747 miles. Armed with P3D V1.4, REX OD, Opus, and FTX Global + Iceland demo, off we go. Cold and dark on GA pad 16, on a grey and overcast day in Iceland. Certainly dark! And with the canopy up and a 20 knot wind, cold! 10 minutes later, we are hot! Looks like take-off is going to be complicated by a pretty fierce side wind... All buttoned and ready to go on Runway 11. The wind sock suggests I would be better on a different runway, perhaps 02, but it is quite a bit shorter. Climbing on out to 22,000 feet. Sometimes I get the appeal to the tube-liner flyers: up high, things are calm, and you can see a lot of world down below. The descent in the next post! After leveling out at 22,000 I realized my fuel calculations were wrong, and that I was going to end up in the drink before I saw Scotland. Fortunately, a call to the boys in the RAF provided a refuel (actually, I took advantage of P3D barking at me once in a while "you are running out of fuel - press CNTL-X to refuel") and I could continue. Part of it was bad math, part of it was going too fast. I have found in the Hornet that just slightly south of Mach 1, say 0.985, is a good balance between speed and range, and I will have to explore that in the Eagle. I really like this spot view. For one, it shows the majesty of tran-oceanic travel - nothing for miles and miles. Secondly, the SOUND: the MilViz Eagle has a beautiful deep rumble. Land ho! Reminds me of my first trip to Japan - I was never so excited to see land before! Tis winter, laddies! Note the fuel level... This has happened to be a couple of times before: I get a grey box blocking my starboard PFD. Looked briefly on the forums, did not see anything yet. Coming in high and hot, max flaps and speed brake. The fuel gauge does not show on this shot, but it was 7-percent. Pretty low for a go-around! Good enough - still pretty hot @ 224 KIAS. Well, what can I say. I just wanted the gentleman who over-shot his approach in the DC-8 to feel better. And I am certainly glad MilViz does not simulate brake fires... Hope you liked the trip!

Hello Pilots I am a member of Military Air Simulation, a multinational Virtual Military Airline for FSX that makes use of VRS Tacpack and a wide spectrum of excellent software and aircraft to provide a FSX military experience like no other. MAS is not quite the traditional Military Virtual Airline in the sense that MAS Operates as part of its own network and we run our own private servers independent of organisations such as VATSIM. We also have a basic military hierarchy (MAS Admins > Squadron Commanders > Squadron Pilots), and rather than representing or being themed on a single Air Force we offer the ability to fly for any Air Force around the world. This means that we can offer members a huge range of options in terms of squadrons to join and aircraft to fly. If you have a favourite aircraft, we probably have a squadron flying it. MAS currently has 50 Members registered across 10 different squadrons themed after various world Air Forces, and MAS has its own dedicated Training Squadron to get new Pilots up and running. I am looking for any Virtual Pilots over the age of 16 who would be interested in flying the Metal2Mesh Mirage 2000-C and/or the Milviz F-4E Phantom II in my new squadron I am raising at MAS. So... I use MAIW traffic and I want to remove the default "Orbit Airlines" and other terrible airlines... using the traffic sliders affects the MAIW traffic too, deleting the traffic BGL crashes the game and WOAI overrides the MAIW traffic too... how can I fix this? I would prefer to only have GA traffic, but if that has to go too then so be it!! Thanks! NOTE: If I install UT2, can I still add in this MAIW traffic??
