Ha my first PC build ever was a 386SX :) Happy times! It coped remarkably with XWing right until the trench run then went to a slideshow...how things have (hypothetically) changed! :) K

And of course all your favorite add-ons continued to work perfectly because it's still 32bit ...

I would be very happy to see if LM had put their efforts in improving memory management BEFORE moving to 64 bits. My feeling always was that with an improved memory management 32 bit is absolutely sufficient. At least for the add-ons we currently have. FSX was developed when 4 Gb of RAM did cost a fortune and nobody could ever imagine this to be a real limit. That's why FSX (and Prepar3d v2 as it has inherited most of the code) most likely has a very poor memory management. You can easily see this when simply saving and reloading a flight frees up a couple of 100 Mbs of VAS. If Prepar3d would release this unused VAS itself, we most likely would not have any problems with OOMs...

I'd love what Rob is describing, mainly because it means we won't have to wait for developers to make their addons 64 bit, but just like Chris I was hoping for an improvement of the autogen circle but also the mesh and texture loading circle: with 64 bit that could have been possible. I never have OOM's and my main game spoiler is the constant morphing and changing of the scenery all around me. Mountains popping into shape, texture loading into view, etc. Horrible. Nevertheless I like the improved memory management, of course. Wondering if it also helps with my little problem.

Hypothetically of course ;) ...

Well, that would be impressive, or even altogether awesome, IF someone, hypothetically, had seen all that happening with his/her eyes while testing it in the last weeks .... :-)

Take care

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear, Rob  Much improved VAS management in 32bit is long overdue, considering that FSX/P3D appears to have done such a poor job up to now with respect to clearing VAS of anything that is no longer required.

What Rob is probably hinting at is another temporary 32 bit cobble, where the P3d app is split up into multiple executables each with its own access to 4 GB of VAS. This is how many of the newer 3rd party add ons get around the 32 bit address limit. They run as independent EXE files rather than callable DLL libraries.

Cheers, Rob.

I've been waiting for this since P3D arrived.

Hey,

LM just installed a forum software/db.  The content is all there as before, it is just that the User Interface has improved etc.
