Hopefully, this one should have been properly tested prior to release. Only 3 more days to go. Yeah the fact that they "secretly" cancelled the Flight test for this update is worrying, but we'll see I guess. I won't be expecting too much, especially on performance improvements, but hopefully it will leads the way to better reflections and shadowing. I was privy to a conversation where someone has said that DX12 smooths things out. If it is true, then that is all I had hoped for.
November 15, 20214 yr I do not expect anything.I continue to fly inexorably towards unknown lands and I am a strong supporter of MSFS 2020. No matter of the outcome of this new update. I support them flawless for better or for worse. There has never been so much daily life and excitement around a Flight Simulator and I love it! I absorb every little piece of MSFS news like a sponge. My gaze is only focused on the future.

And only mildly because from my understanding this is just a step towards proper visibility depiction. As far as I remember the whole system needs to be rewritten on the graphical side for it to be properly able to depict hazy and foggy conditions. And that will happen sometime in '22.

Me too Bob, almost as much as I'm looking forward to a backyard swim with you the next time I'm in Brum... 😉 Seriously- Wx is king for me, this update! Something that Asobo has not really succeeded doing. The L-39 had also a backseat instructor position where you could trigger failures for the PIC. And the flight model, as much as I can judge, was excellent. For many, this L-39 is a hall-of-famer. Definitely one of the all time greats, and if he had some input on the upcoming MSFS L-39 it could be interesting indeed. It's probably one of the aircraft I have flown the most in any sim because of the excellent flight model, versatility and depth.

Most of you will get the chance to try things well before me, due to my slow internet speed, so I look forward to reading your thoughts as usual, as mine slowly downloads . Same here and I am guessing that with all of the content changes and DX 12 this is going to be an all nighter 🙂 Still we can look forward to those who post every 10 minutes telling us nothing more than how their download is progressing! November 15, 20214 yr I would recommend keeping expectations in check regarding DirectX 12. It helps to remember what they said in an older Q&A, that it is a very basic implementation made to look and perform similarly to DirectX 11, and also that it's harder to manage on PC due to all the different hardware configurations. And that it's early-access of course.

The biggest issue for both sims and their dx12/vulkan for Xplane implementation In my opinion was the vram management being way more challenging to code vs the dx11 native. The initial implementation of “let the user manage it” made most people used to slamming stuff full right on the sliders and tweaking the cfg files crash the game/dxgi hung etc. I imagine this will be the same for MSFS with everyone running 400 lod etc unless Microsoft has spent a lot of time optimizing msfs for the vram management. I don’t think it is a dx12 “fault”, it was 100% on the devs to do their job, and they got caught with their pants down. This needs to happen because these days when I load up the sim, it looks nothing like what's happening outside my window and I just end up closing it. The main issue is that there's never enough clouds. I live on a mountainous Caribbean island and we almost always have a ton of clouds floating overhead. With MSFS live weather you'd think that was never the case smh. The only time it seems to get it right is when there's a huge weather system that affects a big chunk the region. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.

I am afraid, you are right, I am now around 10.2GB used of the 11GB on my 1080Ti under some circumstances. This is not even with LOD 400 but under VR. There's nearly no headroom should DX12 need anything more. Usually, I don't have a CTD if the VRAM is exhausted but fps goes down to 5 rending MSFS unplayable. Anyway, it's optional, thus I can go on flying if I like and play with the options if I'm in the proper mood. November 15, 20214 yr I´m also mostly excited about the new weather system. Also the new DX12 is interesting thing to test. And not to forget about the photogrammetry of my home town! 💗 Tapani Österberg
