FS 2024 - AMAZING graphics !!! (Again...)

Yup. I was very happy to get a solid 30fps in fsx 10 years ago in 4k on 2 monitors with my trusty 1080 (the 4090 of its time).

Nothing more immersion killing than a fast slideshow to remind you you're not actually there at all but watching multiple static images in a row simulating movement.

Now that is one strange comment. I can think of a hundred things that are immersion killing in a flight simulator, but perfectly smooth 30fps is not one of them.

I don't want to sound critical here, but......couldn't you get almost exactly the same level of detail/lighting/immersion in MSFS 2020? If not, can someone enlighten me as to what is different in that

The clouds have improved in MSFS 2024, including cirrus clouds in live weather. Light also passes through the clouds differently in MSFS 2024.  The lighting is also improved in MSFS 2024.

  • At 30K+ feet, what is most noticeable (for me) in terms of visual depiction improvements over 2020 (that are non-trivial): environmental lighting (big improvement... and that makes sense since

I share his opinion, 30FPs is awful and should be resigned to the early 2000’s bin just like bootcut jeans on men.

2024 is pretty much love/hate for me. I love the visuals but hate that some of the included aircraft (particularly 737MAX) just flat out will not work for me. I am primarily a tubeliner guy so the visual are pretty important to me on takeoff and approach. 2024 is head and shoulders above 2020 in the visuals but dramatically more stable with the aircraft (PMDG, Fenix, iFly, etc) So, I am stuck in a quandry as each has it's appeal

Fortunately you can use both as desired for different purposes.  I started out with this passion over 3 decades ago and back then started w/ GA flight and learned quite a bit about it as a novice, non-RW pilot.  So right now having just installed 2024 10d ago or so am back using this sim for GA flight in large part, though still use Self Loading Cargo as appropriate and it's great.  But back to 2020 for all airliners and performance is better in 2020 for me with how I prefer each sim to be configured.   In order to showcase 2024's graphic improvements I've needed to dial back frame rate, but not by too much thankfully. Despite 2024's graphic enhancements 2020 is still a fabulous sim in terms of graphics, so is still very relevant and useful.

whats that fps counter in the top right hand corner that he's using in the video called? and why does video look overly blue?

That's not true at all - the engine has the same quriks as MSFS2020 and the so-called cirrus clouds or what should be are the worst I've seen in current SIMS and I'm not saying that as a MSFS hater!
What we see here is simply a metar bubble that appears almost everywhere in MSFS 2024 when rain or similar conditions are reported over the metar station. presumably this should be a continuous band of clouds from - to - but unfortunately MSFS is no longer capable of displaying them since MSFS2020 SU5.
Yes, the clouds look better, but only because the lighting has been reworked - I have to admit that.
Of course you see such formations, even in real life, but not everywhere and especially almost above every METAR station and I think I fly often enough to be able to judge that.
And the so-called cirrus clouds look worlds better in X-Plane, for example.
I don't want to start a fundamental discussion, the MSFS can of course be very immersive, no question - but I can't confirm that the weather engine has improved. Quite the opposite - it was even confirmed to me by a 3rd party developer that the weather resolution (overall) has become lower with several releases (also in MSFS2020) - presumably to save bandwidth.
And I find that the clouds are mostly transparent even in the distance (especially from above and at night) and look very ‘’low quality‘’ - there is already a thread about it in the MSFS forum !

So you look straight ahead the whole flight then? That MIGHT just do it.

I use lossless scaling in MSFS and you basically lock the frame rate to 30 then x2 it to 60 at the press of a button. I do NOT need to be reminded to press that button!

I guess ASFS is being used ? Those Storm clouds look FANTASTIC!!!

I thought it was your rig, until I saw it was a 4K video😂

I'm looking for some good videos in 1080p, to see how did they set the sim up. I still can't find the sweet spot for 2020.

Totally agree about amazing graphics. But I wouldn't personally spend even 2 minutes in the situation in that video, given my lack of interest in piloting and big tubes. But get out in the Norden and keep down close to tree and rooftop height and you'll see some truly amazing graphics. The shot below was appropriately enough taken about 8 miles north and west of L35 (Big Bear Airport). I was heading in the vague direction of LA and spotted movement on the ground. Paused the sim, switched to drone camera and went down and found this guy.

It was made by Xbox as you rightly mention in SU5 and has improved virtually nothing since then, another one of these people's great unfulfilled promises.

Someone has to say it. Might as well be me.

Why not just get out the plane and walk around? I can't imagine the flight sim developer pioneers 30 years ago ever saying "well yeh we nailed the physics as best as we can with this system can't wait till we can make the rocks and bears look real too.

I mean this is literally something we can all do in real life a hundred times better. Open the front door and explore. What we can't do is fly all the wonderful planes out there which is why we have flight simulation in the first place.

If I was a train simulator fanatic I'd never post a screenshot of the rivets on the tracks and say that is what it's all about for me.

What?! It’s easy for anyone to book a flight to any destination of their choosing, and then experience chance encounters with shy fauna?

Don’t think so mate.
