This thread is the only dead end. Hopefully it won't last as long as some of the others.

  • I think we need more of these wild threads.  They're entertaining to read.

  • I’m flying the Max right now, LAX to BOS.  For a dead sim, it’s looking pretty good! -B

  • For dramatic effect.  Some people stirring the avsim pot.

Streaming is just the way it is now, no matter how much we kick and scream 😉

This is not online chess. This is a full on flight simulator. Core simmers buy expensive hardware, monitors and controllers etc and look to get maximum performance. Sitting at the terminal and waiting for the sim to download is a slap in the face. Jorg must come out and announce a major revision to rollback all this. Can't happen soon enough.

Stil haven’t bought MSFS 2024. From all that I have read all those weeks it was far from ready to be released.

Maybe a few are sarisfied but the idea is that everybody can enjoy this new flightsim. And seeing all those threads about issues here and at the official MSFS 2024 forum this is absolutely not the case.

Must he? How presumptuous of you.

It's not for the dramatism, I believe.

Many of @Greazer's posts (cross-platforms, not only MSFS) align perfectly with my way of thinking, and I wouldn't call it populism which we all associate with something negative but sometimes appeals to our own reasoning about some subjects, even if we try to fight that feel, it's rather his way of being honest, and expressing without care of being "politically incorrect", what his heart tells him about what, I strongly believe, he has a passion for, just like all of us.

Sometimes reading some comments by Greazer acts like slapping my own face to "become real"...

Anyway, regarding what Greazer expresses in the OP, I believe he will not have to care if he reconsiders purchasing FS 2024, because as far as I can tell MS / ASOBO have already assumed that it was not the way that was planned regarding the default aircraft, and indeed they should have been downloaded to our installs, and will probably be after some upcoming update.

I have set my rolling cache to 50 GB, and will probably increase it to 128GB because I am sure it'll be used to store streamed content and not spend the time streaming it again, although I did read that some users reported, even in FS 2020, that it's slower to read from local store than from a good Internet link ...

When was the last time any of you ever used a blue ray or a DvD player...

It maybe a rhetorical question, however later today Amazon will be delivering my Columbo blu ray box set.

I do own Columbo on Amazon prime for streaming however the blu rays have been restored and remastered at 4K and by all the reviews are of superb quality.

Anyway completely irrelevant to the topic I know , but you asked. Carry on.

For me MSFS 2024 fixed my streaming issues. In 2020 I had photgrammetry turned off because 80% of the time it could not load so it was a melted mess. And I was not the only one who could’nt get PG to work in 2020.. So 2020 was NOT and is NOT all fine and dandy for everyone….

Sure 2024 has bugs, infact a whole lot of them, especially in VR. But I just do those things that works and workaround some of the issues and the experience is amazing, better than ever before:)

Another thread completely devoid of intelligence, substance and nuance by our very own Greaze. The daily soapbox for the perpetually cross individuals to give us their insight yet again how 2024 is the cause of everything bad in their life, to tell us yet again they applied for a refund and to drive home the fact, yet again, that we got supposed adults here who are completely unable to just... move on.

At least it's good entertainment while I enjoy my coffee.

Although some people might sound like they are reciting lines from dramatic scenes in Shakespeare, I do have sympathy here.  Things may have improved somewhat,  but not everyone is experiencing an equally improved sim, because some are trying to do different types of flying.

Sadly, I think if you're an airline guy, the experience is probably still significantly sub-optimal.   The best experiences are had with off the beaten track flying, bush flying and adventures probably.  Sandbox type adventures with limited scenery but an overwhelmingly good experience.

I have taken three days off from work and will  spend some serious time exploring the sim.   But I haven't yet seen a stream on Youtube in the past two weeks where someone has landed at a large  airport without the runway being a blurry mess.  In fact, I watched A330Driver last night land at an airport which was stored on his local drive - and the runway was a blurry mess.  That raised an eyebrow.  Why would that happen to locally stored scenery?

Not my experience, I have flown a number of flights in the Fenix A320 to and from payware airports. Off the top of my head Inibuilds EGLL, FlyTampa EKCH and Aerosoft EBBR, all of which have not shown any blurry textures at any point.

These flights have also included GSX, PSXT live traffic, using FSLTL models (as the AIG models are not ready yet.

Dead End? Absolutely not, more like the beginning of something great!

If you think this is a 'low hanging thread' why comment on it to boost visibility? Self defeating surely!

Of course they still have their uses while in the back country etc. although I've actually been amazed at the places in British Columbia where I have watched a Netflix movie online.

Streaming is just the way it is now, no matter how much we kick and scream 😉

Two nights ago. Blue-ray watching Life Of Brian. Whilst picture quality for streaming is close to physical media, sound still lags behind. I don’t live in a back country. I’m 10 miles from a major city.

And unlike streaming you always have access to anything stored on hardware in your house. All it needs is a hostile state to disrupt a country’s internet infrastructure and streaming is a non-starter.
