From my understanding, A2A is also running their flight model, and a bunch of other things, externally of MSFS. But somehow, they managed to get their Comanche on the XBox. Do you have an educated guess as to what A2A is doing that is different from Fenix? Honestly, @lwt1971 explained it quite well. ultimately if you want, you can create a plethora of custom systems in WASM. Take the passenger sign switch in the FBW, the entire circuitry and data (using bit values mind you) passage of that switch is simulated, via custom systems. Which is what Fenix, A2A and most devs are doing, custom stuff. Some devs use more wizardry than others, while others are more dependent on the framework provided by MSFS. Both external and internal have their pros and cons but with the right know how, you can achieve what you set out. However, it won’t be easy like any kind of software and sometimes MSFS makes it more difficult than necessary but you can eventually prevail.

I, too, was under the impression that the Prosim code was a limiting factor, but if the NEO will be the first that removes this limitation, might the NEOs be available on Xbox? I would think that there is a massive monetary incentive to broaden the range of platforms on which these products can be deployed. I forget the percentage, but I think I remember someone saying less than 20%, if even that. However, all the Fenix code runs outside the sim so, no, it won't be on Xbox (or in the MP).
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Commercial Member ProSim code is not really a limiting factor from an actual licensing and legal side fwiw. We are able to do absolutely whatever we want with it, whether that is deploying it as is with 0 changes, or throwing it completley out and beginning again, and everything in between. The limiting factor begins on the engineering side when you have the option to a) learn, then adapt someone elses codebase to improve it and achieve the desired results b) rebuild it inhouse Given the companies and entites are seperate, we don't really get a great deal of "how to" anymore - so we got what we got, and we've been doing pretty OK with it, personally I don't think it makes sense to be rid of all the code - but certainly areas like VNAV, ECAM, etc - where we want to push fidelity and do stuff the original code was never spec'd for - there we replace, rebuild, etc out of pure necessity. You can see this if you observe how we've progressed along. We generally attempt to work with their stuff first, i.e VNAV, which we have done a TONNE of ancillary work around, all of it's math was replaced, same with the code to predict fuel burn, same with the pathing algorithm having been adjusted, so on and so forth over the 3 years this thing has been out. It is completely incompatible with the ProSim software, such is the difference, but yet it still has core and structural issues that we run into as limits - things like the fundamental build process for the vertical pathing, deviations in baseline logic, etc. This has taken us to where we are today, where indeed, it's passable - but we continue to be not satisfied with the results, and passable isn't good enough - so last year someone was put on VNAV full time, rebuilding it in-house with the assistance of other team members as and when needed. It's still in progress and won't ship with BFU, just as a disclaimer. The flip side of this is when stuff doesn't really need to be touched, take a random arbitrary thing like the reception filtering for incoming VOR signals - realistic attentuation, etc - the code is plenty good, it is wasteful and inefficient to remove it. So it stays! It's an ongoing assessment based on need. The ECAM is being redone inhouse out of need too, NEOs, state saving, core timing issues - all these things have their root solution very very deep within the ECAM and so it bears decent logic that adapting something so critical and complicated into a set of needs it was never designed for, means it's probably better off just being redone in house. Always a push and a pull at this circus at least. But we're moving along nicely and I'm really happy with what is becoming possible. We aim to not waste reinvestment as far as possible, and part of that is keeping the good parts of the licensed code when it's either easily adaptable or already suitable at the level we want it to be. July 28, 2025Jul 28 Moderator I wasn't planning on purchasing the NEO 321, but seeing this incredible BFU video has changed my mind. I'll purchase the NEO as soon as it comes out, Fenix has earned my continued support for sure! July 28, 2025Jul 28 Fenix all the way. Can’t want for this to drop. Hopefully the NEOs aren’t too far behind, but I’d much rather they take the time to get it right. July 28, 2025Jul 28 I'm truly shocked regarding how much goodness is coming with this update. It's basically a brand-new sim and Fenix is giving it to us for free. Compare that to "Brand X's" business model. These guys are in a category by themselves.
July 28, 2025Jul 28 I can’t believe I ended up watching the entire video. it was THAT good! so, as one of the three or four people who don’t own it: will the BFU turn this into “The” airliner to have…? Edited July 28, 2025Jul 28 by UrgentSiesta
