  1. So, I had x plane 11 on my laptop: CPU: 1.8 GHz RAM: 8gb 750gb HDD And I just switched it over to my desktop: CPU: 3.8 GHz RAM: 8gb 1tb HDD, newly formatted and a brand new install of windows 10 * My desktop does not have an upgraded graphics card nor does my laptop * All settings are on minimum I have not run any tests on my desktop yet to see the usage of the cpu and other items. I dont believe my cpu is overheating because everything else runs perfect. This just doesnt make sense to me. I can actually fly a plane on my laptop with a slower processor, but not on my desktop with the same RAM and nearly twice the processing power. Any ides are welcome. Id rather not shell out extra cash for a graphics card, but I might be willing to purchase more RAM.
  2. Hello avsim community! So my question is, can I connect my Lenovo Y500 (specs on profile) to 2/3 monitors. I put the slash because it depends on what I can do. If 3 monitors that's great, if not then 2 monitors. I mainly want it for 3 Monitor FSX flying. The thing is I only have an HDMI, VGA, and 2 3.0 USB ports. If possible, no more than $100. I know about triplehead2go but its pricey. If I could somehow work with out it GREAT if not, that's life and I will buy it (if it works). Thanks in advance and hope to hear some answers!
  3. Hello everyone I know that FSX is CPU intensive which is why desktops are highly recommended. But, I really prefer laptops due to their easy transportation capabilities and spacewise. I am interested in two laptops. I intend to run PMDG 777 and 737. http://www.amazon.com/GL551JW-DS71-15-6-Inch-GeForce-Discrete-Graphics/dp/B00T7XRH2A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434478111&sr=8-1&keywords=asus++ROG+laptop http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QHD8N6C?psc=1 The only major difference is the GPU. The first one has GTX 960M (which is cheaper) and the second has a GTX 970M. Anyone have an idea if the difference of these graphic cards will have a noticeable different FPS count? If yes, about how much of a difference? Thank you (first post)
  4. My PMDG "career" has started nearly 1.5 years ago, it's about time for this post. I started of with the JS41, enjoying it but soon feeling I need a plane I often fly with as passenger, so I soon got the NGX, followed by the expansion pack. As I felt that I want to get into heavies too, the MD11 joined the fleet. I fly all of them a lot, and last week I bought the 777. Why not? If it doesn't work I have it ready for better times when I have a decent desktop. But now, after turning down a few settings I totally enjoy it. None of the other planes gave me the feeling of flying a large plane and "being there". I already flew her into the most complex scenery I have, Aerosofts Approaching LOWI, and landed without problems. FPS on final approach was just above 10, but stutter-free, making good hand flying possible. This was certainly better than with the NGX, where I had to switch to the 2D panel. On important thing to note is that I'm not a "HD" simmer. I have no problem with a few "blurries", low autogen settings and default sceneries and clouds. If you can think like that as well and have a similar system as me, I'd say go for it. Hope this helps some people who are unsure about getting the Triple Seven  . Thank you PMDG for giving me such a great time with your products. I wish you nice holidays, merry Christmas, and a happy new year, hopefully beginning with releasing the "real" (sorry about that, I just prefer long airplanes) 777 when it's ready.
  5. Hello, I am looking into buying a laptop for fsx (please do not say that a laptop is not the best solution for fsx, but I cannot get a desktop as I travel a lot). I have found a laptop, and would like to know how many frames I will get when running fsx with payware planes, airports, ftx global, and rex. And, is the graphics card good enough? Laptop Specs: ASUS ROG GL551 Intel i7-4710HQ 2.5-3.5GHz 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive 16GB GDDR5 RAM NVIDIA Geforce GTX 860M 2gb Thanks!
  6. Hello can anyone help me with finding a new gaming laptop pretty please? Kyle?Ryan Maziarz? There are thousands of you and I know we have some PC geniuses amoung us! Hello there guys, My birthday is coming up and Im in the market for a new *gaming laptop 15 inch* and I hope you can offer some expertise. Im in London and im stuck between getting the new alienware 15, the cyber power pc 15 or the pc-specialist 15 inch http://www.pcspecial...ooks/octane-15/ Im gonna use - and + to share my thoughts so far, please feel free to recommend options, forget the price for now, I just need help seeing whats out there (Remember Im in the UK) I need help finding beast processor (up to 4ghz w/boost), best gpu (nvidia gtx 980m or higher) and monster screen (4K resolution). So far, alienware fails with a processor only maxing at 3.5ghz with boost and is (-)the most expensive option (+)BUT it has a 4K screen but then again (-) their nvida gtx 980m is only 4GB (Ive seen 8 GB models out there) but (+) their graphics amplifier looks nice. Warranty up to three years (for extra amount) ~ £2,850 for what I want Cyber power PC has all I want in terms of CPU and GPU but fails in terms of screen resolution. They have a standard 1080p when What I want is 4K. Also their support seems pretty poor only offering a 1 year warranty (for all that money) and asking me to pay for laptop insurance from a thrid party company against theft/accidents/fire. ~£2,765 for what I want https://www.cyberpow...5_Gaming_Laptop Pc specialist so far is looking like the best option satisfying my CPU requirements, GPU requirements AND a 4K screen. Also, they include a 3 year warrant already with the price but you can pay a bit more for "premium support". Out of all three, this is the most affordable too. The only drawback I can see here is that I have never heard of them until today and their exterior seems quite plain but at least there is a multi coloured backlit keyboard. Please not I also picked an antivirus, office student and two hard drives (1 TB SATA) and 240 SSD. ~£2,573 for what I want Any thoughts? Also please remember 15.6 inches only and a company that ships affordably to the UK I am very mobile so a desktop is out of the question The reason why I want all that power is because I barely come in contact with consoles becaus of my mobility and I do everything on my PC for once Im willing to pay a bit more to make running games/applications a piece of cake Thanks Valesius Faulkner

  8. Hi Guys, I need your help on this one! I decided to buy a new Laptop (I know what you thinking,...a PC is a lot better, but unfortunately it most be a Laptop!) and I need your feedback and experience on How well it will perform? and if there is something I should be worry or aware about!? The specs are: Asus ROG G750JX 17,3" Full HD skærm Intel Core i7-4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M / Intel HD Graphics 4600 - 3 GB GDDR5 SDRAM 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD - Serial ATA-600 750 GB 7200RPM harddisk DVD-RW Thanks guys
  9. As you may see in my specs, my laptop is not exactly a good one; however, is what I've got for FS2004. After a friend told me what he did to his 2008 Dell laptop, I'm thinking about replacing my DVD drive with an SSD (I've only used my drive 6 times in 4 years). The caveat: somehow Toshiba disabled SATA3 for my laptop, with no solution in sight, so I'm stuck with SATA2 (half of SATA3 speeds). My budget is a modest one; in the US I think I may be getting all what I need (SSD + ODD caddy) for less than USD 80. Currently, my laptop has a 640 GB 5400 rpm HDD. Taking all this into mind, do you think is it worthwhile?
  10. If this is in the wrong area, mods can you please move it? So I can say for a fact that a lot of have tried to run FSX on a laptop at some point and gave up with the idea due to the underwhelming performance you got from it. No matter how powerful the laptop may be for current games, FSX still somehow owned your machine, leading to a rage uninstall. Well this might be a possible fix for running FSX on your laptops with a bit more performance. **DISCLAIMER** I take no responsibility for ANY damages that may occur and this is done at YOUR OWN RISK! Now with that said, I'll tell you guys about this application called ThrottleStop. I've been using it since it's first incarnation a few years ago on the NotebookReview Forum. I'm actually shocked that more people don't know about it, especially here. In any case case, what it does is prevent your CPU from throttling when using intensive apps like FSX. Stuff like FSX will push your processor to it's power limits and it's temperature limits, causing your system to throttle and make it under-perform. With some motherboards, it's coded in bios to throttle the CPU once these conditions are met to prevent hardware damage (And with a lot of laptops, you can't overide this in bios). *Now that this is clear, it is VERY important to be vigilant about the temps of your hardware, especially on a laptop. I recommend HwMonitor* So why use ThrottleStop? ThrottleStop helps to overcome your system's throttling issues by force your system to run at it's full clock speed. It works with most CPUs (desktop or laptop), so anyone can try it. It also has features to change the power limits on your CPUs (i3, i5 and i7s ONLY) as well as overclocking features for extreme and unlocked CPUs. You can download it here: http://www.techinferno.com/downloads/?did=41 And you can follow the guide to learn more about the features here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html Now this post was really made for laptops but also applies to desktops. Don't expect your system to run FSX with everything maxed! No matter how good you think your hardware may be, you WILL have to make some compromise and accept the limits of what your system can and cannot do. Don't expect to run maxed autogen with light bloom on and expect a solid 30fps throughout your flight. It won't ever happen! Adjust settings for an all round performance and smooth flight. Now the naming scheme Nvidia has used for their mobile cards is a little misleading. Meaning my card is a GTX 280M, and some will think it's close to the performance of the desktop version GTX 280, WRONG. The performance of my card actually translates to the performance of a desktop 9800GT. So the current GTX 560M-GTX 580M and GTX 660M-GTX 660M mobile cards translate to the performance of roughly a GTS 450-GTX 470 desktop card. So also keep that in mind too when thinking about setting things up. Here's how I have ThrottleStop set up: http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2661/1pb8.png **IMPORTANT** Anyone using the i series CPUs (i3, i5 and i7) PLEASE DO NOT adjust your TDC value unless you know what you are doing, otherwise you can potentially fry your motherboard that way from the extra current to the chip. I do not recommend TDP values to exceed more than 20 of it's default value. If you increase it anymore, your PSU won't have enough juice to give the CPU and your GPU power. I commented in another thread saying this: "You don't want to have C1E checked in throttlestop. That's for the processor sleep states, you don't want the cpu to sleep when fsx is running. BD PROCHOT is THE main culprit for throttling. Essentially that triggers the cpu to throttle when it gets too hot to protect the cpu and gpu. When this happens your fps fall to a crawl. By unchecking it, your cpu will try to keep up the turbo boost, ignoring temperatures, BUT once it reaches critical temp (between 95*C-100*C) it WILL throttle. That's hard coded and you cannot get around it. Any temps beyond that can potentially cause long term damage to your hardware. That's why I said to monitor your temps very closely." Hope this helps you guys out there!
  11. Hello everyone, I am looking for a new computer, and unfortunately it absolutely must be a laptop. Furthermore, it has to be a portable one, so no 18 inch monster laptops. I was thinking of buying an Alienware 14 with an i7-4900mq processor (2.8 ghz with 3.8 ghz on turbo) and an NVIDIA 765m. I know there are other gaming laptops with much better GPUs for a lot less money, but being for FSX, I was looking for the best CPU. Do you think this will be able to run FSX with the PMDG 737 on reasonable settings? My current computer has an i7-720qm and an ATI 5730m, and it cannot do the above. I believe that this computer should be at least 80% faster due to the increase in clock speed and 3 generations of CPU improvement. There should also be some additional benefits in cloud rendering because it is an NVIDIA card. What do you think? Can you think of a better laptop option that is both portable and from a reputable company? Thanks for the help!
  12. Hello everyone Last Tuesday a power overload blew out my computer loosing everything I had there. Since I am beginning the University next year I am thinking on moving to a laptop which can render video, run Photoshop, some games, web browsing, and run FSX with PMDG's 737, 747, and 777, Aerosoft's Airbus, REX, and some add on scenery (FlyTampa Saint Marteen, LatinVFR Guatemala, Costa Rica, Tegucigalpa) So I have 4 options: Asus VivoBook S15: Core i5 7200u GT 940MX 8GB DDR4 RAM 1TB HDD DELL Inspiron 15 5565: AMD A12-9700P Integrated Radeon R7 graphics 8GB DDR4 RAM 1TB HDD ASUS X556UA: Core i5 7200U Intel HD620 graphics 8GB DDR4 RAM 1TB HDD 8GB DDR4 RAM HP Pavilion 14-al001la Core i5 6200U Intel HD 520 graphics 8GB DDR4 RAM 1TB HDD 8GB DDR4 RAM So which do you think will be a good decision?
  13. Laptops have improved to the point were I think I can stop using desktops. This is analogous to phone landlines being replaced by mobile cell phones. I'm specifically interested in tip on how to run FSX on the latest Intel integrated graphic chips. Is there a laptop forum? Thanks.
