  1. Just picked up the Orbx S43 and W16 pack - about 20 USD. I was a little skeptical because their P3D ported airports looked pretty bad (BUR/SBA etc). These ones are new native MSFS versions and while I haven't looked at W16 yet, I am very impressed with S43. They really did a nice job and if they continue this trend I could easily see myself picking up more PNW packages as they come out. Here's a fun VFR flight I flew via the mountain passes from S10 to S43. Cruised anywhere from 130-150 mph over the ground between 4500 - 8500 ft. I was just on the northern edge of a cold front which honestly made for some spectacular views. I hope you guys enjoy! Oh and of course a shameless plug for me and Tim's paint scheme hah! The moment I lift off we're already greeted with lovely views... 2. Hi all! I have a quick question regarding Chaseplane which i cannot seem to find an answer for: Does CP work correctly when doing the walkaround on the A2A Cessna 172? I am currently using Ezdok, and have seen a lot of information on CP to make me consider switching (the main reason being that ezdok does not work correctly when doing the walkaround, the camera views are messed up). Everything else i have heard makes me want to jump ship, but if CP does not work correctly when doing the walkaround then there is less reason to switch. Thank you for your time.
  3. I would really like to buy the Mindstar GNS 530/430 and also will buy it. It looks very good. However, I would like to have a review or something like that of it. There is virtually nothing on the internet like a review or video, so I hoped someone in this forum has purchased it and can tell me their experience with it. - Has it affected your Frame-Rate? - Do you have some pictures of it? Maybe even in an A2A-Product? - Do you know any videos, showcasing the unit? - How do you like it in general? - Something general about the GNS 530: Is it nice to fly with? I'd like to fly IFR in my A2A Cessna 182. Can I somehow get RealNav-Data for less than 40$? I don't need a one year subscription. I only need a more or less new AIRAC version. Or is paying the cheapest plan for 40$ the only and cheapest way? Thanks a lot!
  4. Hi. New to Lua and programming in general, am I right in assuming that the function name can be anything I choose that is descriptive of its use? also I am trying to figure out why my code below wont work, nothing happens when I programme a switch on my X-55 with it. I used the LInda Tracer to find the Lvar relevant to opening the cockpit side door on the A2A Spitfire, and (after un-pausing FSX-S) the door opens by a command sent from the Linda Tracer "Set Value" Toggle (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+F10). Any help much appreciated. 5. Some shots from recent flights...
  6. I did a quick search around this forum and didn't see anyone bring up the fact that the A2A Piper Cherokee has been in beta testing since the beginning of March. See this post on their forums. I must say, after buying their 172 and seeing how it has progressed with the past updates, the Cherokee will be an instant buy for me. They posted this photo of the cockpit around Christmas time. It looks great!
  7. My first repaint. Still tweaking details and trying to get the colors right. N4635K had beige instrument panel covers at one point, so I will be making an alternate version as well. Criticism welcome. Nitpick it. I'd like to make this as close as possible to the actual plane. But in many places, I have to get creative since the A2A geometry is significantly more modern than the referenced real-world aircraft, especially in the cockpit. N736HD is nearly identical to this aircraft, but the paint is faded, and the interior is worn and damaged. I plan to follow up with that plane later. I will post more photos as I progress.
  8. This will be a love/hate relationship. The A2A B377 CosT is a wonderful thing but the horrific mauling she has given my ego will take a long time to heal. :LMAO: Don't get me wrong - I am well aware that I am a terrible virtual pilot and a total greenhorn compared to many (most!) of you here, but so many of my FSX planes allow me to get away with being a horrible pilot - to the point that it becomes easy to convince myself otherwise. All my GA planes make me feel pretty competent - GPS takes the hassle out of the navigation and means you can concentrate on the flying, and the sheer speed, stability and manoeuvrability of most of them means that a bad initial approach is quickly rectified and a greaser swiftly pulled from the jaws of defeat. Even the 737NGX, as wonderful as she is, pretty much flies herself if you get the FMC and AP aspects right. Not so the B377. Oh no. Leaving aside the fact that I am having to go back to learning navigation properly again (a good thing, don't get me wrong) and leaving aside the added complexity of having to juggle temps, MAN pressure, Carb heat, CAM heat etc etc etc and ignoring the terrified screams of those on board for a moment, I have just discovered that the approach and subsequent (attempted!) landing is a whole new ball game for me. I really struggled to get the approach lined up (partly due to duff navigation) and even when I did, trying to get her properly on track and keeping her there was a real struggle...as my botched off-runway landing will attest. Anyways - I have rambled enough. Time to drag my humbled butt back to the cockpit and try again! (For the TLD:DR crew: The A2A CotS B377 is ace. I suck at it. Still fun.)
  9. Hello Avsim-Community, I am new to the forums and actually quite new to flight siming aswell. I have some questions regarding scenery addons and two specific addon planes. I guess you get those kind of questions a lot but I wanted to hear specific answers on my questions, because all the research I did confuses me, because there are many many oppinions of course - in the end it'll still be up to me though I know So a few months back I installed my FSX again after probably 3 years and really started to get interested into flight siming. I got the PMDG 737NGX for my birthday and quite liked the depth of it. I did both tutorials, but I am struggling to really learn more about the plane. That biggest hinderance for me is the flight planning, it seams to me that you have to get PFPX and Topcat to really plan your flights properly, those tools are expensive though, and I don't know if it's worth it. Aren't there other ways to plan your flight for free. I know of "rfinder" but that doesn't tell you certain things like takeoff data and so on. To summarize my first "topic" so to say: - How did you learn how to fly the PMDG 737NGX? - How do you plan your flights properly? I also realized that I'd enjoy some GA aircrafts aswell (VFR flying), such as the A2A products: Cessna 172 or the new Cherokee 180. I really like there walk arround and "taking care" system. So the first question is: - Would you get the Cessna or the Cherokee from A2A? Coming to my last question. I thought, I'd like a nice scenery to fly a GA aircraft in. I am thinking of a ORBX scenery. I just wanted to here your oppinion about the different regions they offer and which one you'd recommend the most for GA flying. I had an eye on the PNW scenery, but the Australian, New Zealand and also the Northern California scenery are looking very great! My only concern was that ORBX offers payware airports in those regions, so you'd have to spend even more money, or are the airports in the scenery packs modeled better non the less? Okey enough text for now. I hope I posted that in the right section of the forum. Thank you for your help in advance. Greetings, Tim (Voxelfox)
  10. My favorite new Zealand route, Queenstown to Milford Sound. Anyone else own these add-ons? What planes have you landed at that tiny resort? I'm still scared to try the Mustang..
  11. My last tour for a long while i think. Took way too much time but the fantastic scenery and planes kept me excited to see it through. I believe I visited every single OrbX add on airport and bush strip in the whole region.
  12. Having got checked out in a nice new 172 with the G1000 last week in the real world, I took A2A's gem for a nice flight from Revelstoke to Victoria. And yes, I was playing around with wheel pants and all that, which is why some shots have them and others don't...
  13. So I started a journey a couple days ago, to fly from Cooking Lake (CEZ3) to somewhere in British Columbia, Canada. Haven't quite decided where to go, but most likely end up in greater Vancouver area. I figured I would track my journey somewhere, so coupled with screenshots, I'll put it here for now. Anywho, onto the flight. This is CEZ3, small airport in Central Alberta. 1 runway and a float plane base. This is the aircraft I'll be flying, the A2A C172R with a really nice repaint by jimmyrfr on the A2A forums. The photo taken below was on the way to the CYEG VOR, from there I'd be flying an outbound course towards Edson, Alberta. From there I'll head to Jasper and that's where things will get tricky. Mountain Navigation. At least tricky for someone used to punching in FMC details and what not. coming into Edson This was after arrival to Edson and parked at the airfield. I reloaded some scenery and it changed from Fall to winter textures. Strange but not a big deal. I don't really do flights during real time because I tend to get home later, with it getting later in the season and coming close to winter that also means night time occurs towards 6PM local. I flew to Jasper on local time, which of course was 8PMish, so pitch black navigating through mountains and at night. I'll get a shot of Jaspers grass field at the next departure, when I figure out where the next stop is! With the 20 pic limit per thread I'll add more into my flickr and then people can see a few more there, I'll link the album here; https://flic.kr/s/aHsm6RmDs5 For anyone interested in the addons you see here; Simaddons West ORBX FTX Global ORBX Northern Rockies ORBX PNW (later as I get closer to the coast) A2A 172R Rex texture direct
  14. Hi all, Has anyone got VoxATC working in V4? I downloaded the demo last night and it seems to work in all default aircraft but my A2A aircraft weren't detected, and they don't have that panel in the menu. I then manually copied the panel entries into the panel.cfg file but it still didn't show up. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the A2A planes are in the Addons folder and not in the SimObjects folder. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Cheers!
  15. So happy to have this back...
  16. Took my A2A C182 all over the continent over the past month or so... some pictures of that journey. Cruising along the PNW coast Down towards the Grand Canyon Heading to Lake Tahoe A quick stop way out in Catalina before heading east Waaaay east. Approaching St. Barts And heading home early the next morning.
  17. Just one screenshot today. I was flying the Cherokee into a randomly chosen private airstrip, only to discover that it doesn't exist in the simulator! The landing was a little hair raising. For those one want to find it, it is 2MT1.
  18. After downloading the entirety of BlueSky photoscenery, it's time to start exploring! Based on the recommendation of another user, I started by flying from KCNY to KBCE. I loaded the Cherokee, this time equipped with all of the Knots2U speed mods, with a full load of 4 people and half a tank of 100LL. After takeoff, we track the Hanksville VOR to the southwest. There were some truly amazing sites to be seen here. The following is definitely one of my favorites: The speeds mods took some getting used to, as the power settings that I was used to could easily place the airspeed into the yellow band. Additionally, thanks to ASN, there was a great deal of turbulence coming off the ridges. It was a very bumpy flight. I soon found myself face to face with a mountain ridge and was forced to fly south to avoid it. This airplane is not equipped with supplemental oxygen, so there was no way to fly above it safely. About an hour and a half later, it was time to land. The high altitude of Utah makes flying here very interesting. The field altitude here is 7500 ft. And there you have it! After this flight, I cannot recommend the free BlueSky photoscenery enough. It can take a while to download (the entire package is about 225gb!), but a smaller region such as southern Utah as shown here is quite reasonable. The A2A Cherokee and ASN were also used in these screen shots.
  19. Hello. There is a sale on Carenado aircraft as I speak and the deals are pretty dang good. I was just wondering if I would be pleased with a few purchases. I am currently building a sim pit, almost done, and really enjoy the realistic aspect of flight simulation. I own both the A2A Cessna 172 and the Aerosoft Twin Otter and find them extremely satisfying because of the realism and challenges provided by these in-depth aircraft. The A2A is truly amazing. I also plan on buying the Real Air Duke 2.0, Majestic Dash 8 as well as a few PMDG products somewhere down the road soon. Considering that I enjoy these complex aircraft so much, I mostly like flying small general aviation aircraft VFR, but will advance beyond that as my knowledge progresses, do you guys think I would enjoy this list of Carenado aircraft; Cessna 185 bush, Cessna C208B EX HD, Cessna C337H Skymaster? I heard the Carenado G1000 isn't great and that is in the C208B, and it sounds as though Carenado kind of concentrates on beautiful but kind of simple and easy to start and fly aircraft. But I also hear that they make really good simple aircraft like the Cessna 185 with steam gauges. I'm just the kind of person that likes to be able to press every button and flip every switch, and would prefer to have it actually do something. I also like it when an aircraft "punishes" you for messing something up or not flying it correctly, though it doesn't have to be real world perfect. Also looking for a decent flight model and systems modeling, especially fuel flow matching the books as much as possible. Any thoughts on how these aircraft are with these preferences, or should I just stick with the brands and aircraft I have already mentioned earlier? P.S. I will probably get the 337 anyway because it is such a unique aircraft.
  20. In about half an hour, 1500 Eastern time and 1900 GMT I will be streaming a flight in the A2A J-3 on Twitch. I will be flying through "The Grand canyon of PA" and attempting off airport operations. Tune in here... http://www.twitch.tv/shalomar2
  21. Hello all. I just finished my sim pit and am working now at setting it up and fixing all the small issues, but one has me puzzled. I have a Saitek multi panel with the flap switch connected to a powered usb hub and am setting up the A2A 172. Just using SPAD and not FSUIPC, which I do have the registered version, it worked the first time I tried, but would only go from 10-20 degrees, and once in maybe 10-15 tries to 30, but never to zero. I saw that FSUIPC seemed to have a way to set up flaps under Joystick Controls, but it seemed confusing so I avoided it. I tried to set up through FSUIPC Axis and Keystrokes, but it wouldn't recognize the flap switch. I got into SPAD and set the switch to keypress mode, or whatever, and assigned the standard F6 and F7 keys. I also went into FSX and deleted any other buttons that were set to these keys. It worked perfectly! 0-30 degrees any time I wanted. I reloaded the aircraft so I could show my father that it was working. I went to use flaps and nothing happened at all. I went back through, checked my settings, reset my settings and fiddled a ton. I cannot for the life of me get it to respond. Anyone know what the heck could be going on? I will keep fiddling for now. One more thing. I have the Saitek radio, multi panel and switch panel all on a powered usb hub. SPAD recognizes the radio and multi panel every time and allows me to make my adjustments, while SPAD doesn't say anything about a switch panel being connected in the upper left corner. Should it be showing up? Shouldn't it show up so I can make adjustment through SPAD. When I got it a few weeks ago I tested it to make sure it wasn't damaged and the starter knob and more than half the switches worked without changing or setting up anything. Should I try a different usb port? I have no Saitek drivers and I jiggled and unplugged and replugged usb's but it didn't do anything. Any help is great. Thank you.
  22. Greetings! I usually fly GA aircraft, but every once in a while I just have to bust out something loud and fast and run some canyons. For this exercise, I loaded up the A2A P-51 Civilian, Orbx CRM, Opus FSX and set a course from Lewiston (KLWS) to Weiser (S87), Idaho. This route follows the Snake River along the border of Idaho and Washington and is popularly known as Hells Canyon. In a small aircraft you can take-off and land at Weiser. However, in something as fast as the P-51 you are pretty much limited to KLWS. My P-51 mechanic scolded me severely for running the Glamorous Gal into the airport fence last time I tried to land at Weiser... Besides that, I needed to make sure I know the new AVSIM picture posting process! Hells Canyon is actually pretty wide (remember Evel Knievel and his infamous not-jump of the Snake River?), so storming along at 100-200 feet above the river is not unreasonable. It is pretty calm inside the cockpit, about 220-250 knots with mild manifold pressure, a relaxed prop speed, and only (!) 4G maximum load. Apparently I was out-racing a rain squall on my trip south, and ran into the weather on the return leg. Added a couple thousand feet for a relaxed return home. I just love Orbx scenery! All clear. KLWS is right over the top of the rise in the middle of view. Hope you enjoyed the flight! Hmmm. I appeared to have done something wrong, since the Dropbox pictures are not showing. If you right-click on the icon it works, but that is just not right... Maybe using the suggested fsfiles site will work...
  23. Hi guys, The question is simple: What do you think is the best add on aircraft that came out last year? The 777 of PMDG? The A2A C172? Or the Majestic Q400? Also, please say why you chose it. Thanks!
