Parking brakes conflict
Does anyone have any suggestions how I could have the parking brakes "disconnected" from my normal toe brakes (I am using ch pro pedals) as they are pretty sensitive and make the parking brakes pop off all the time? Thats pretty annoying. Otherwise my brakes work ok, no problems with rto or autobrakes etc.. Kaj Ekström

Service based failures question..
If I have service based failures enabled and do not have the default panel state as "previous flt" but instead for example cold and dark, does it "reset" the failure probability counter (i dont know what to call it..) so that it equals a situation where I am handed aaircraft that has been just serviced? I cant have the "previous flt" enabled as I am using fs2crew voice ed and they do not recommend it...:-( Thanks! Kaj Ekström

securing aircraft cheklist problem
Hello. I have a question about my newly purchased fs2crew captain edition voice version for 737ngx (fsx): After completing the flight I ask FO to "secure the aircraft" he runs the flow then I ask for "securing aircraft cheklist" and he reads it. After that the tutorial manual says that if I like I can start a new flight by pressing the "run PF" button in cfg menu. But if I do that nothing happens, the FO does say the "lets get ready for next sector..." or something like that but he does not start flipping switches and there is no fire bell etc. If I want it to work I have to first re-load a "cold and dark" panel via FMC and then press the "run PF" button. Why is this? Also sometimes when I ask the FO for securing aircraft cheklist he does not respond at all even though he has gone through the securing flow. Is this because I have forgotten something? And yes I have the English US Language package and I have the FS load aircraft in 2d AND I do have the Trike as default aircraft. Thanks in advance! Kaj Ekström

No clouds at high altitudes?
Hello. My problem is that I cannot experience overcast conditions at high altitudes. For example when cruising at 37000 feet I go to "set wx" menu and try adding cloud layers with high base eg. 39000 or 33000 feet oe whatever and setting big thickness value it doesnt create them. It is always the same. I can see the nightsky and stars clearly every time climbing pass around 14000-17000 feet. I know there are high altitude thunderstorms that cant be flown over in real life, why cant I simulate one in as2012? Everything works fine at low altitudes (below about 14000 feet). Am I doing something wrong with the settings? Using DWC, flying PMDG ngx. Anyone? Thanks! Kaj Ekström

Too fast and too high
Hi. Almost every time I start my descent as programmed/calculated by the vnav, I end up way too high and/or too fast for my approach and I have to circle several times to set up for a stable approach and landing. I always have to use a lot of speedbrakes also. I know somebody will reply that I should input winds to the fmc as it matters if I have tailwind but the problem seems to be every time. And its not every time I have tailwind, sometimes headwind etc. Is the vertical flight path calculation realistic on the ngx? Any suggestions? My autothrottle seems to idle on the descent (it says "arm" and end up about 40% N1), that should be correct? Thank u!

"Program PIN error" on CDU?
Yesterday I was doing approaches and practicing go-around maneuvers at ESSA, I repeatedly set up my approach on rwy 01L and repeatedly (maybe 3 times) also re-entered the ILS approach on the CDU "app" page. Then the CDU gave a "program pin error" and I could no more enter any approaches on the fmc/cdu. The simulator did not crash and I landed normally but I could no longer enter any stars and approaches on the computer. If I tried it gave me a blank screen with only "FMC ACT" on it. Has this happened to you guys? I purchased my PMDG 737NGX in 2012 so I should have automatically all the updates sp:s etc? Thanks!

Where is "gear not down" warning horn cutout switch?
I cant find where the cutout switch is for the annoying warning horn for the "landing gear not down" situation if you have flaps 15 or more selected. Sometimes I would find it conveniate to silence the alarm. FCOM just says that it can be silenced by pressing the cutout switch but could someone point out exactly where in the cocpit can I find the button/switch? :)

Engine failure procedures?
Hi! A few questions about how to handle an engine failure during takeoff (after V1). Yesterday I armed a engine failure after V1, manually climbed 1500ft and engaged autopilot but I noticed that I cannot engage autothrottle. Is that normal? Should the autothrottle not be used under any engine failure conditions? How about the landing weight? Would it be normal policy to land the aircraft in an engine failure (not engine fire) occured after takeoff if you are a bit abowe max weight? Say 5000-6000lbs. Or should you circle around to burn fuel with one engine since the 737 has no fuel dump capability? Thanks! Kaj Ekström

What are the autopilot disconnect criteria on land3?
Yesterday I was set up for an land 3 approach to EKCH, LAND 3 was annunciated, then about 1000ft AGL autopilot disengaged. I tried to figure out why it did it but im not sure. Could someone tell me the criteria for LAND 3 disconnect on fail op 738? Does it disconnect if I inadverently push the trim knob (I have set my elevator trim up&down to buttons on my flight sim yoke)? Im not sure if I maybe accidentaly pressed one of these. One thing I was considering is the turbulence effect. I have AS2012 and no turbulence supression on anywhere (FSUIPC, FSX menu or fsx.cfg) as I have never had problems before with S-turn issues. Is there anyone else flying with AS2012 and latest FSUIPC reg version? Do you have any problems with autopilot and turbulence? I know that the major problem should be the s-turn issue (with ASE at least) but is the autopilot disconnecting during turbulence also a known issue regardin ngx? I havent found posts on that.. Thanks!

A/T Disengage on T/O and ENG FAIL in the air
I have the same problem with a/t disconnect on takeoff sometimes. I dont have fs2crew, seems to hapen more often on specific addon airports to me..?

Should I upgrade to GTX550 Ti from GT530?
Hello everyone. I have a system with i7 2600k (not overclocked), 8Gb RAM and a Nvidia GT530 video card. My question is should I upgrade to GTX550-Ti video card? Do you think it would improve my fps even to some extent? Basically the only thing I do with this desktop is run fsx so other aspects concerning the video card can be ignored. Thanks in advance!

turbulence and other "shaking" sounds?
1. Hello. Does anyone know if there are any good/compatible soundset addons for the pmdg 737? Allthough its a great addon and generally I think the sound enviroment is cool I would sometimes like to here some "shaking and squeething" sounds in the cocpit for example when penetrating rough turbulence? I think in real world turbulence causes that kind of sounds (at least in the passenger cabin:)). 2. Another question regardin flying through turbulence: What would be the correct procedure? If there is heavy turbulence and airspeed bounces, should I disconnect the autothrottle and maintain manually a little bit slower airspeed? How much slower? (I use AS2012 for weather) Thanks!

SID has altitude limits, ATC instructs climbing, what to do?
I fly always in vatsim network, never use AI atc. Maybe this is the wrong forums? But anyway, so if I fly a SID that atc instructed when getting my clearance and atc gives me an altitude/level, I am allowed to climb that level as quickly as I want? Meaning I dont have to obey the published restrictions in the SID?
-
SID has altitude limits, ATC instructs climbing, what to do?
Ok, so say I have been designated a SID to follow after takeoff, the SID has strict rules for climbing for example at 4000ft at a certain waypoint, then 5000ft next one and so on. Then after takeoff atc instructs me let say for example "climb FL 150". Should I just forget the published restrictions and shoot up or obey the restrictions until past the last restriction point and then just climb to assigned FL? And if I follow the restrictions, say the ATC directs starts all of a sudden giving me vectors (which take me off my published SID lateral route) out of the terminal area, can I at that point forget about the alt restrictions since I am not even flying the published SID anymore? Thanks!

Autobrakes disarm immediately on RTO?
I think I FINALLY (after total 15h+ axperimenting) solved the problem. I can do RTO:s how many times I want as long as I do NOT engage reverse thrust during the deceleration. Immediately after I engage reverse, the next time I roll down the runway and execute RTO the autobreak disarm problems begins. Every time. And after that only solution is to restart FS. I can reproduce the problem every times like this. If anyone would have the time tot try this out to see if it is a general bug or only a problem on my rig I would appreciate it very very much! So: First a few rejected takeoffs in one session with no engagement of reversers and then one with the engagement of reverser. On the next rejected takeoff after that I would expext the autobrakes to disarm immediately on idling the throttles. Please report here if you find similar results! Thanks!

Autobrakes disarm immediately on RTO?
This is annoying as hell. I even experimented yesterday by unplugging all my controllers (flightsim yoke, ch thr quadrant and pro pedals) from my computer. Still, after 90kts, A/T off --> F1 for IDLE thrust, I get a swcond or two of braking action then autobrakes disarm. Any ideas anyone?? My addons: EZDOC, SQWKBOX 4, Activesky 2012, Aivlasoft EFB (on anoteher computer linked to main computer).

Autobrakes disarm immediately on RTO?
I have a problem: I noticed that my almost every single time I try to perform a RTO the autobrakes disarm almost immediately when closing throttles. This is the sequence: A/T armed, everything set up, RTO selected. I push TO/GA switch, start rolling, after 90 kts I disarm A/T and close throttles ti idle, sometimes autobrakes disarm immediately, sometimes I get a maybe 1 sec of braking action and the the autobrakes disarm. About 2/10 of my attempts end in a succesful braking an rejected takeoff though. My first thought was of course that it is a controller conflict because if I have understood correctly the autobrakes should disarm if throttles are advanced or speedbrake lever is moved. So I tried playing around with the controller setting but nothing helps. Then I even tried the following: I used the FS "disable joystick" button and disabled my controllers completely, used mouse and keyboard to start the takeoff roll, the above 90 kts or so cliked off the A/T and hit F1 to close the throttles and STILL the autobrakes disarm??? I've spent hours on trying to get it work but starting to get desperate. If somebody has any ideas please post them here:) I am using CH throttle quadrant, CH pro pedals and flightsim yoke. Before starting FS I start the CH manager and download the controllers in a "direct mode". Excluding this problem everything works fine with the controllers.

LAND3 disconnects before flare on heavy windshear/crosswind
OK G-CIVA i hear you. I just don't think you understood my questions. Of course I would not expect the autoland to land the airplane smoothly on the centerline in a middle of a hurricane. I read over and over my initial question and I cant see why you have come to that conclusion. I'll try to be more specific. Computers are based on algorithms and are expected to do as they are programmed. So my question is: What are the exact variables (crosswind, turbulence, ILS deviation) that make the autoland mode disconnect on the 737-800? I couldn't find anything on the FCOM or FCTM and when basically EVERY single variable about aircraft performance etc. has been documented in the manuals, I am thinking that the autopilot should NOT disconnect in autoland mode due to exeeded weather conditions. Would I expect it to land perfectly? Off course not. Of course I would expect it to crash the aircraft off the runway, stall on approach or put the aircraft in some other unwanted situation if I would not manual take over because it just cant handle the drifting winds etc. But to disconnect by itself? If it is PROGAMMED to do so, then I understad it completely but what are the criteria? You say that "The Autopilot does not have some inbuilt logic saying "I must land now because I am in Autoland Mode"". Well the autopilot has programmed logic to follow the glidepath, maintain speed, flare and rollout on toucdown etc. because thats how its programmed. No computer has a AI that says, "Ok I cant handle these kind of winds, I think ill just disconnect" if it is not programmed to do so. Get my point? Now, if there's somebody with solid facts and knowledge about this matter I would appreciate very much if somebody educated me on this. Thank you in advance!

LAND3 disconnects before flare on heavy windshear/crosswind
Yup, I know and knew that the conditions were out of limits, though I remeber the crosswind limit being 20kts so its not too much beyond limits. Luckily its a sim so trying anything is allowed:) Still I am not sure that the autopilot should disconnect when it deviates from the ILS beam or target app speed? Erratic behaviour yes, thats understandable when the winds throw you all over the place but what logic would make the autopilot disconnect once it has commited to the land3 mode? Any thoughts?

LAND3 disconnects before flare on heavy windshear/crosswind
Is there some logic on the 737-800 ngx fail-operational land3 autoland that makes it disconnect if there is too much drift from the ils on the final or for example coming in too fast/slow due wind shear or in other cases making the approach unstable? I played around yesterday putting some heavy weather to my sim using Activesky 2012. I set up crosswin of 25-30kts, heavy windshear and turbulence just to see how the autoland handles it. Though a bumpy ride, the approach went pretty good but about 200ft agl there was heavy change in windspeed increasing my ias from desired 142 to 158, soon after the LAND3 mode disconnected and I ended up flying the plane manually.. Any explanation for this? I always thought that after LAND3 has engaged its (almost) impossible to get it disconnected the only method being pulling the A/P disconnect bar or pushing TO/GA switch.. Thanks!

737 ngx engine ignition, "rwy remain" and wind forecasts
I have a few simple (i hope..) questions regarding the 737-800 and I thought I'll summarise them all here, hope someone with more knowledge could help me with one or all of my questions/problems. 1. Whats the difference between "flt" and "cont" in ignition switchhes. I know that cont should be on to provide continuous ignition during t/o and landing and turbulence and flt to be used in in-flight engine restart but whats the difference in the mechanism? Why can't you use "cont" for in-flight restart? What actually happens in engines when flt is selected? 2.What does the "rwy remain --00ft" do in the takeoff setup page of fmc? Havent found a good answer in previous posts. Something about the position update of the navigation system during t/o roll? When should I use it? 3.On one of the the pre-flight setup pages theres a "wind dir/speed" line, should I put the average total wind speed and direction of my planned route there? Does it affect the FMC fuel consumption calculations? Is there any need to use the specific "rte data" page to enter winds for various legs if I get the assumed fuel calcultions from this already? Or is the idea of entering the wind values for specific waypoints to get correct vnav behaviour? How about the "descent" page "forecast" page, isnt it the same info all over again? Thanks!

A/P disconnects on flare when in land3 mode?
But why would it toggle G/A by itself upon touchdown? Maybe there is some conflict with my keyboard/controller etc? I have CH pro pedals, flightsim yoke and thr quadrant. Using latest registered fsuipc, though i calibrate controllers via ch manager and I have no other problems with my controllers..

A/P disconnects on flare when in land3 mode?
Yesterday when I was landing the pmdg 737-800ngx using autoland the autopilot suddenly disconnected just after the flare and touchdown. I had everything set up correctly, land 3 annunciated, vref + 5 etc, I did not apply force to control columns either. It started the flare correctly at about 50ft, and just after touchdown the nose suddenly pitched up and made the aircraft bounce. It was like it would have toggled the go-around mode itself??The the A/P disconnection warning sounded. The A/P disconnection could have been because at the moment of the sudden pitch-up I reactively pushed forward on the stick to keep the aircraft on the runway. I believe there is a override function when you apply enough force on the columns? I was flying online using squawkbox. Ive had this problem once before, that was also when flying online.. Never when flying offline though.. Anyone else with this weird uncommanded G/A mode activation problem? (Btw I have the fail op seleceted in the pmdg CDU menu)

737ngx How to navigate when IRS fail?
I also found out that if I turn off both IRS the app or VOR modes of my ND will not work either. So it seems if both IRS are swithed off/failed you have NO navigation aid whatsoever left. No idea where you are and no possibility to even go back to conventional navigation. How can the VOR receivefrs be dependent of the IRS?

737ngx How to navigate when IRS fail?
OK, so the GPS on a state-of-the-art modern jet does nothing but gives you your present coordinates and heading? If thats the case, so be it. I just could not believe it but it seems so? Someone posted earlier that when u lose both IRS then you lose attitude information and that makes perfect sense to me. Of course the GPS only gives position (hence the name global position system) and speed calculated from that. And thats no problem since there is an standby artficial horizon on the panel that continues to work independetly of IRS. But that the GPS cant provide info on an ND about planes position and for example airfields around you or whatever is programmed in the GPS just baffles me. That if you lose sync in your two spinning gyroscopes or whatever you are completely back to basic VOR-VOR/VFR/ATC-vectored navigation? Guess its for the best to pack a simple 50 dollars car-GPS with a charged battery with me on future flight. Just in case..)
